Gaz had never cared about Valentine's Day. To him, it was just another day on the calendar, nothing more, nothing less. While his teammates scrambled to plan romantic evenings or struggled to find the perfect gifts for their partners, he kept himself busy. He even volunteered for missions so others could stay home, be with their loved ones, and enjoy the day.

But this year was different.

This year, Gaz found himself standing outside an apartment door, his palms slightly sweaty despite the cold February air. In his hand, a bouquet of fresh flowers—an impulsive buy, one that felt both hopeful and nerve-wracking.

And all of this was because of her.

Y/N.

He'd met her a few months ago, completely by chance. He had been out shopping for a present for Price's newborn niece when he'd seen her slip on a patch of ice. Without thinking, his military instincts had kicked in, and he caught her before she hit the ground.

She had laughed—actually laughed—despite the near fall, brushing off her embarrassment with a joke about being as graceful as a baby deer. And Gaz... well, he had been hooked ever since.

They weren't dating. Yet.

But God, he hoped that would change soon.

Taking a deep breath, he raised his hand and knocked.

A few moments passed before the door opened, revealing Y/N in a cozy sweater, her hair slightly tousled like she had just been curled up inside reading or watching a movie. The sight of her made his heart stutter, and for a split second, he considered bolting.

Instead, he swallowed hard and held out the flowers. "Hey. Uh... Happy Valentine's Day."

Her eyes widened slightly, flickering from the flowers to his face. Then, slowly, a smile spread across her lips, warm and surprised. "Gaz... these are beautiful. You didn't have to—"

"I wanted to," he blurted out, then ran a hand over the back of his neck, feeling ridiculous. "Look, I know we've been... friends. But I was hoping maybe—if you're interested—we could... I don't know, grab dinner? A real date, I mean."

For a moment, she just stared at him, and his stomach twisted. Maybe he had misread things. Maybe—

"I'd love that," she said softly.

Gaz blinked. "You would?"

She laughed, stepping forward to take the flowers from his hands, her fingers brushing against his. "Yeah, Kyle. I would."

The tension that had been knotting in his chest for weeks finally loosened, replaced with something lighter. Warmer.

Maybe Valentine's Day wasn't so bad after all.
