"Heather stay with Pher." Ikzo instructed as we moved through the ship, "I need to go find the leader. It will be a trade if you mother is not here."
I nodded.
"Pher—"
"I know protect her. I got it." Pher cut him off. Ikzo sent him a look and I already knew what he was thinking. If Pher messed up he would probably try to kill him.
Ikzo pulled me for a quick hug then went with a smaller group of men. I watched until they were out of sight. The other Occollans split into two groups. One stayed and worked on a panel of buttons to the left of me while the others began securing the halls.
I peeked down the hall that the buttons were on but it was a dead end so I turned towards the other way.
"Where are you going?" Pher caught up to me.
"To look for my mother." I responded, opening the first door by pressing a button beside it.
"We need to stay by the exit."
"Aren't the others securing the halls?"
"Yes." He drew out like the wanted to defend himself better.
"Then we should be fine," I turned away from the empty room going to the next one, "Ikzo just said to let them go first."
Even so I pulled out my revolver from my waistband before pressing the next button.
I heard Pher mutter something but it sounded like it was in Vekan then he spoke in English to me, running up and placing him in front of the next door I was going to check, "At least let me open the door. Ikzo will literally kill me if you get hurt."
I agreed to that, allowing him to press the button and look in the room first before I did.
We went like that down the different halls. In the distance I could hear some shooting but it was several halls over, slowly moving further away. Each time Pher made me stop walking until it stopped.
On two occasions there was someone in the room. Both were n's and were shot by Pher. The first time I argued about that. They could have known where my mother was but Pher defended that they could have used that time to shoot us. After that I didn't say anything. He was right and I knew if my mother was here I would eventually find her. I would check every room before I left.
"Okay go." Pher said.
I pressed the button then waited as he moved into the doorway, holding his gun up and scanning the room.
"Empty."
I glanced in then moved to the next one. This was a routine we just picked up. I would stand out of the way, pressing the button while he quickly scanned the room then I could look. It helped lesson the chance anyone attacked or shot as the other pressed the button.
"There's like a hundred room in here you know." He pointed out as he cleared another one.
"And we've already looked in what? Twenty?" I pressed the button again, peeking in when he said empty, "So like eighty more to go."
"I hope my partner is not as crazy as you." He muttered walking to the next door, "honestly I might not even pair if that happens."
"You are so nice to me did I ever tell you that?" I asked with heavy sarcasm as I went to push the button.
"No." He didn't catch the tone. His eyebrows pushed together with confusion.
He nodded for me to open the door and I did. He ended up shooting someone inside but I didn't even react this time, checking for my mother then moving to the next door.
