Chapter 27: The wakeup call

You awoke in a cold sweat, you hands trembling and strong arms wrapped around you- your breathing was heavy and you slowly blinked your eyes open to see who stood before you; Kaya and Eleanor both held you tightly as they were crying endless tears, raindrops streaming down their face despite the clear sky.

You: " Hey, hey, I'm ok, did I scare you? "

Kaya: " Yes you asshole! What the hell happened? "

You: " What do you mean? "

Kaya: " the door of the library, didn't you lock it? and why did it collapse? "

You: " No... There were stairs but I never locked the door, I don't know why it collapsed, tell me what happened on your end? "

Eleanor: " We were waiting outside like you had asked, while we were waiting though Kaya had the urge to check in on you so although I tried to stop her- she tried opening the door but it was locked and there was no way to break it even if we tried, we kept yelling your name but got no response which was when the tower began to fall and crumble- we were so scared since you were still inside but then you suddenly opened the door and collapsed after taking a step out... "

You were shocked, you didn't lock the door and somehow were able to walk out that quickly despite being hundreds of feet under ground- it didn't sit right with you but you were done with the tower now and began to walk back with the girls and explained everything- you learnt that the tower was home to an old demon lord that suddenly vanished call Vauxen. The tower crumbling alerted the guards since they thought it was another attack, they calmed upon seeing you return down the cliff unharmed and asked what had happened, you lied and told them you tripped a trap set up by the old owner on accident-  they left without incident and you returned to the manor with the girls.

That night, you couldn't sleep- what was down there; who was down there more like? Someone is waiting for you to be ready but what do they want you to be ready for, what does this mysterious voice have planned for you and why is it specifically after you. The night was long and you didn't need sleep though it would've been nice to get some, the girls attempted to sneak in again but ran away as soon as they saw you still awake and sat up in bed, the event was still on your mind until the bright morning light awoke you and snapped you back to attention.

You were departing today, you needed to head home back to Tempest- you began to get ready and don a new set of  clothes to return home in, Rimuru would be so suprised that you made it to demon lord before him and now you could protect them better than ever but as you slipped a new tie on to try and look formal, you got an alert from Souei, it was choppy and distorted meaning something was wrong.

Soeui: " M.... Lo..d.... Tem...st.... under.... att...ck.....shi....de...d "

You: " Soeui you're distorted, I think someone is intercepting! "

Soeui: " help... "

The connection cut off, you could hear another voice briefly before the connection ended, Rimuru also recieved the transmission as you could hear him also being distorted- something big was happening and you needed to return home. You rushed to the window of the manor and leaped from it, large building sized black wings sprouted and flapped furiously allowing you to take off, the draft ripping trees from the ground. You flew quickly from the island, not having a chance to say goodbye but it wasn't important now and you needed to save Tempest.

You were above the large desert now, flying overhead with ease before a whistling sound caught your attention and a large spear rocketed through the air towards you; trying to hit you out of the sky. You looked to where the spear came from and saw a small camp with knights firing a large ballista looking weapon at you as if they were hunting a regular sized dragon, you quickly landed and curled up your wings- the knights there seemed cocky and rushed for you with their swords, you hand moved out in front of you and their souls were dragged away and out their bodies for you to consume.
