Chapter 7: The one pulling the strings

You and Rimuru woke up early, leaving your seperate tents in unison as you walked out fully dressed- looking over at the blue slime who hopped over and jumped into your arms to be carried, he smiled and looked up at you cheerfully;

Rimuru: " Mornin (Y/N), sleep well? "

You: " Morning Rimuru, I didn't really sleep at all- don't know why. What about you? "

Rimuru: " Yeah I did, suprised you're still walking if you're that tired? "

You: " Nah don't really feel it, maybe I don't need sleep? "

Rimuru made a confused sound, indicating he didn't know either. You both headed towards where the humans were and saw they were already awake and packed- Shizu stood talking to them. You walked over carrying Rimuru and joined the coversation. The sum of it was that they thanked you both for your hospitality and Shizu was saying goodbye to the adventurers as she planned to continue her journey- maybe they depended on her a little too much as they basically begged her not to go.

She turned to say goodbye to you both before suddenly collapsing in pain, you placed Rimuru down and held Shizu's back- asking if she was ok. There was silence before she suddenly began floating upwards and light expelled from the cracks forming in her mask. Rimuru gave the order to evacuate as you tried getting the adventurers to leave but they refused- you stood beside Rimuru before hearing a voice that caught everyone's attention.

??: " Well... well... well... Guess she's used up all her usefulness sooner than expected, gotta report this to the lord now. damn it I'm gonna lose my bonus pay now she's basically dead "

You: " Who the hell are you? where are you even?! "

??: " I'm a watcher, observer of the ones our lord brings into this world and the ones tasked with capturing the spirits again once the host eventually dies "

You all watched as Shizue burst into flames, your and Rimuru's analysis skills telling you it was the greater flame spirit, Ifrit. You and Rimuru turned to eachother as he nodded- the adventurers were confused and suddenly screamed as you sprinted into the forest and left Rimuru alone to deal with Ifrit.

??: " Oh shit, you've found me huh? "

You could sense the man's magicules and could even hear the beat of his heart leading you towards him, you planned to take him out and go help Rimuru finish off Ifrit- surely the watcher would be stronger if he is meant to capture Ifrit so you had to be the one to take him down in case Rimuru wasn't strong enough. You ran to a clearing that held a river running through it, bisecting the land as you finally caught the man and was now staring at eachother from opposite banks of the river.

??: " damn, you're fast Lizard boy, never thought ya would catch me this easily by anywho- you're gonna die quicker now huh sunshine "

You: " No introduction, you do this whole bad guy act terribly "

??: " What are you rambling about? Fine, I'll introduce myself: The name's Kalliel Horkerman, I'm a spirit hunter for Demon Lord Leon Cromwell- I am also a dragon newt, I evolved under lady Milim before switching sides "
