Selena's POV
"The groom's mother should come forward and tie the knots" The priest ordered, so Aunt Flora smiled and stepped forward. She bent down and blessed both Sammy and I before tying the knots.A sudden gasp escaped Aunt Flora's lips as she stared at my neck, "Sely, where's your necklace?"
Perfect!
"Oh my, my necklace!!" I exclaimed, searching my seated area for the necklace.
"I knew it!" Grandma Kiran shouted."I don't know what you were thinking, handing the family's prized possession over to that wretch!"
"What's going on? What necklace?" Sammy asked in turmoil, watching Aunt Flora and I panick.
"Someone stole my necklace, someone snatched it from me!" I cried out inorder to gain empathy.
"Relax, just try to remember where you last went" Dad said, calming me down.
I pretended to try recalling, "Um, I only visited Sammy's room today. After that, I came back here with Sam. That's all"
"That means it must've fallen off in Sammy's room" Mom said, while Aunt Flora nodded in agreement.
"Maybe. But a lot of people have been congratulating me and giving me hugs, so I don't know. Maybe someone snatched it off my neck stealthily".
"No, the guests wouldn't stoop so low!" Mom exclaimed. "I believe the servants here have something to do with the disappearance of the necklace!"
"What are you saying Kanika? Don't start pointing fingers!" Dad scolded, but mom kept acting according to plan.
The perfect plan to get rid of unwanted pests!
"All the servants must line up for interrogation. If it's not found with any of the servants, then we can say someone among the guests stole it" Mom announced, winking at me. I gave her a satisfying smile.
"Please make it snappy. The auspicious time is running out!" The priest said impatiently.
"Can't we figure this out later?" Sammy asked, but no one responded.
All the servants were asked to line up one after the other for interrogation. They were all interrogated, and they all turned out to be innocent.
"Are these all the servants here?" Mom asked. "What about you?" Mom pointed to Diana, who was sitting next to grandma Kiran incase she needed assistance.
"Me?"
"Yes, you! Aren't you also among these people? The servants?" Mom grinned, folding her arms.
I glanced at Sammy, he looked angry. I could sense how hard he tried to control himself when Mom called Diana a servant. The look on his face made me feel at ease, it felt glorious.
"Come here" Mom motioned for Diana. Diana stood up confidently and walked over to mom.
"Are you accusing me of theft?" Diana asked.
"C'mon darling, who called you a theif? All the other servants were interrogated too, doesn't mean they're theives. So, why are you making a fuss about this?" Mom retorted to Dia's question.
"Kanika, just do what you want to do and stop beating about the bush. I believe Diana is innocent like the rest of the servants" Dad said in Diana's defense. I got upset hearing him defend her like that, but oh well. It will be worthwhile.
Mom moved closer to Diana and searched her. For second there, it seemed like mom found nothing, until she shoved her hand into Diana's pocket.
"Wow, what do we have here?" Mom smiled, dragging out what was in Diana's pocket.
Behold! It was my necklace!
Mom waved the necklace in the air so others could see. "Look what we have here!"
"I-I-I didn't steal it. I have no idea how it got in there!" Diana tried to prove her innocence. "You have to believe me! I swear, I didn't take it!"
"Really? Then how did it get in there?" Aunt Flora asked in agitation.
"Lower your voice Flora! Diana would never do such a thing!" Grandma Kiran retorted in Diana's defense.
"If she didn't do it, then how did it get in her pocket? Did it crawl in there?" Mom asked grandma Kiran sarcastically, a little bit of laughter escaped her lips.
"This was a set up perhaps! I don't believe it!" Dad defended Diana.
"Oh please dad! You can turn a blind eye all you want, it wouldn't change the fact that this pathetic gutter girl is a spineless criminal!" I yelled out.
"SHUT UP!" Sammy's Sharp tone echoed in my ear drums, causing me to shudder in fear. His eyes became red, rage engulfing him.
"Sammy!" Aunt Flora called out to him sternly. "How dare you speak to Selena in such a manner?"
"EXACTLY! How dare you yell at my daughter?! You're trying to defend this criminal over here? Just wait, I'll call the cops on her" Mom grabbed her phone and dialed the station's number. Dad suddenly grabbed mom's phone and threw it on the ground.
"Senseless woman! Why involve the police? It's a trivial matter!" Dad yelled at mom.
"Enough Vivek! Stop defending this criminal! It might seem trivial now, but tomorrow she might steal the Oberoi's mansion"
"I will throw her out personally!" Aunt Flora grabbed Diana's arm and dragged her out.
"Ma'am please, I swear to you, I didn't do anything. Ma'am please hear me out!" She cried out, while I grinned evily.
Finally! That's what I call, taking out the trash!
"Dia would never do such a thing, case closed!" Sammy said softly, not looking at anyone. Aunt Flora stopped in her tracks and turned to face Sammy. Sammy slowly got up from the alter and loosed our knot. Everyone gasped in astonishment, making me feel humiliated.
"What have you done? This is a bad omen!" The priest exclaimed, worrisome.
"It's also a bad omen for a married man to marry another woman!" Sammy retorted confidently, staring at Diana.
My mouth dropped wide open, along with everyone else. I blinked continuously, trying to process what Sam said. "I'm sorry, what?"
"What are you talking about Sammy?" Aunt Flora asked, breathing heavily.
"I'm saying the truth. Sorry Selena, but I might go to jail if I marry you"
"S-Sam? Wa-What do you mea-n?" I asked, my hands shaking in shock.
"I--- I am already married! I love someone else".
" Who?!" Grandma Kiran asked.
"Diana! I am in love with Diana and I'm also married to her. I'm sorry it took so long for me to admit it Dia, but I love you! I love you so much. I will die without you" He said in tears. Diana glared at him, speechless.
Tears also streamed down her cheeks. For the first time, Sammy Oberoi was in tears. He ran to Diana and loosened Aunt Flora's grip from Diana's hand.
"I'm sorry mom, but Dia is going nowhere!" He grabbed Diana's hand and held it tightly. He glared at her, his face close to hers, "I love you Diana" he professed.
"I-I love you too!"
I lost my balance and landed on the floor flat.
