PROBLEMS >

( what's the word? tell me what you heard?
don't tell me what to do just tell me when it hurts. )

THE AIR WAS AT AN ALL TIME CRISP, the wind blew a warmer draft then the ones before, leaving a heated kiss on paige's face. summer was nearing as the weather only continued to get warmer. it was a more welcoming touch then that of winters harsh breezes.

it was ada's last week with the uconn women's basketball team. she had been dreading ada's departure the second she arrived. the atmosphere felt so much lighter when ada was there to fill it. the room felt easier to breathe when ada was near. it was as if everyone could tell ada was going to be in the room before she was even in it.

being around ada was like having summer all year around. when your walking along the shoreline, close to the sand but just close enough to the water you can feel the water beneath your feet. or when your driving down to the beach with the windows rolled down and you can basically taste the salty air on the tip of your tongue. ada was taking the first dip into the water on the hottest day.

those were just a few examples that came to paige's mind at the thought of ada.

"so what's the deal with you two? are y'all dating or what? because i've got a bet to win here." aubrey muttered the last part, but in all honesty she was running out of time before kk would win her 20 dollars.

"we are just taking our time. i don't want to rush this, she's really important to me and i do not want another lia situation." paige and aubrey sat on the rooftop of one of their old favourite cafes. it was quiet, only the simple sounds of glass clinking and the ruffles of the overhead umbrellas moving slightly with the wind.

"ok... well maybe rush it a little bit because we're literally getting to summer break now. and what else is there to worry about? you both know that you want the same thing, ada does not care about lia. you don't care about chase. you're in love, what else is there?" aubrey took a sip from her lemonade, staring up at the sky praying that her tactics were working or else she just woke up early for nothing.

"woah, i don't know if we've gotten to that stage yet but yes i do really, really, really like her. but this summer i'm gonna be so busy, i don't even know if we'll have any time to hang out. and she's taking up another project soon." paige sighed reviewing her summer schedule, it was a harsh truth. ada and paige were far too busy to accommodate hang outs. especially when they both prioritise their careers so much.

"yeah but when there's a will there's a way." aubrey was determined to get the two together. not only for the bet, but for paige's sake. it was so clear how in love she is for ada. everyone could see it.

"i don't know, i just have to the about the whole picture here."

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

paige had been up all night thinking about aubrey's words. or more so what her replies were to them. the thought of not being able to see ada was one that paige thought she would never have to worry about, but now was the holidays were closing in it was harder to brush off.

paige wanted nothing more than to just be with ada. though every time the two got close to their happy ending it was as if the universe would put something in their way again. or maybe it was just a sign that they weren't ready.

paige knew she really needed to focus for next year, her last year. she couldn't mess it up this time, no injuries, no distractions. she had to put in the work and effort. and ada wanted to focus on expanding her horizons. work with bigger brands and news agencies. work on some of her own pieces.

their futures were what mattered most to them. and their jobs, their love for their careers will always imbalance everything else. paige knew ada well enough to know that. ada knew paige well enough to know that.

but being forced face to face with it was something paige wasn't prepared for. so instead of facing the roof of her room in silence being reckoned with her own thoughts. she called ada.

"hey, sorry did i wake you?" paige whispered into the speaker gently hearing the small groans coming from the girl on the other side of the line.

"no, no it's okay. what's up?" paige could practically hear the smile on ada's face and the peppiness in her voice.

"ada we need to talk about some stuff." paige sighed as she pulled her blanket closer to her chest. as if that would protect her from the conversation that was about to unfold.

"like..." if ada wasn't awake before she definitely was now. because at 2 in the morning this was not the type of call she was expecting from paige. as her mind started to wander over any thing that she could have possibly said that would have upset paige. scrolling to her calendar just in case she had missed anything. but there was nothing, which worried her even more.

no one starts a conversation like that if it's a good thing. and by the way she could hear paige's staggered breath and her teeth chattering together it seemed like paige didn't like saying it either.

"do you think this will work?" paige let out a breath finally letting the words leave her throat. a dignified fight between her mind and mouth whether or not she should even bring up the problem with ada.

"what do you think paige?"

"...i don't think so."
