One day, as I quietly walked down the hallway, I was completely absorbed in reviewing my notes. Since other teachers frequently give surprise quizzes, I've made it a habit to go over all my notes before class.
Distracted by my studies, I unintentionally bumped into a woman lingering in the hallway, which caused her to kick me. My belongings spilled everywhere, and I fell to my knees. She laughed, as did the other passersby, when they saw my scattered things and me struggling to get up.
"Ayan, tatanga-tanga kasi. Maganda, matalino, mayaman, pero bulag," pangmamaliit sa akin nung babae.
I chose to ignore her remarks and gathered all my scattered belongings. Her laughter only intensified. Once I retrieved all my items from the floor, I simply resumed walking.
My body is naturally weak. I become frail and sensitive to pain even from a light touch. Additionally, I easily fall ill, even from brief exposure to rain.
"Why did you do that?" mahinahon kong tanong sa babae.
She gazed innocently at the laughing students. "Did something happen? What's going on? I didn't do anything," she reasoned, seeking clarification. "Did I say or do something wrong?" She inquired of the students.
I am aware that their bullying has become excessive. However, what can I do? At first, I was alone-now, they outnumber me. If I fight back, I'll be the one to face the consequences, likely suffering twice as much as they ever did to me.
"What's going on here?" I heard a familiar voice. It filled me with courage. I hoped he would stand up for me again, just as he did on the first day.
"Sir Zade," nabigla ang babae noong nakita niya ang subject teacher nila.
Sir Zade glanced at me, then lowered his expressionless gaze to the bottled water and notebook in front of me. He shifted his attention to the woman who had harmed me.
"Are you bullying her?" he asked.
The woman didn't respond; instead, she shot me a hostile glare.
The teacher then looked around at the other students. "Aren't you supposed to be in class?"
"Are you okay?" he inquired.
I nodded, suppressing the tears welling up in my eyes. I refused to let the situation escalate. Steffi was right-no one would believe me. After all, I'm the daughter of a man with many mistresses. Besides, I was outnumbered; I was always alone.
"Let's head to the classroom. We have a quiz," he announced. I followed him silently as we walked.
That morning marked the first time they didn't mock me or hurl harsh words-because Sir Zade was by my side.
"Pass your papers. When I count to three... two... if it's not here by one, you get a zero," Sir warned sternly.
I quickly answered the final question, confident in what I had reviewed.
As I stood to approach Sir Zade, someone suddenly pushed me, and I fell to the floor.
The classroom fell silent at the sound of the impact. Even the quiet girl who had pushed me froze. I couldn't quite read her expression-it didn't seem malicious.
