"Totoo ba 'yung nasagap kong chismis?"
"Nakakahiya naman ang section nila."
"Section 1 pa man din."
"Nasaan na 'yung dalawang nag-cheat? For sure, suspend silang pareho."
As I exited the room, whispers from other sections filled the air. The cleaners were tidying up, prompting me to walk ahead of my classmates toward the STEM building to verify if Yhael was truly responsible for the incident.
Those two friends wouldn't cheat-they despised dishonesty. I sensed there was more to the story. It all sounded intriguingly mysterious.
Upon reaching the STEM building, I overheard students discussing their anticipated exam scores.
"GenChem 2 ko, for sure 2 lang."
"Akin nga swerte na lang kung maka five scores ako sa Basic Cal, mali-mali naman ata 'yung equation ko."
"Pinakamahirap 'yung balance sa GenChem 2. Grabe, nag-STEM nga ako kasi nasa ABM ang balancing, hindi naman ako aware na meron pa lang ganoon sa GenChem."
I proceeded directly to the room where I had first locked eyes with Yhael. He immediately caught my attention because of his height compared to his classmates.
He flashed a smile as he handed his test paper to the teacher. Just as he about to leave, she stopped him, requesting a brief moment before he gave his explanation.
Afterward, the teacher commended him. Although I overheard their conversation, I couldn't catch the details. I believe it had something to do with their Basic Calculus class.
"'Yung mga tapos nang magpasa ng test paper, pwede na kayong umuwi," announced ng kanilang teacher.
Nakita ako nito. Imbes na tanungin kung anong kailangan ko ay ngumiti lang siya sa akin.
"Ma'am Ariz, kunin niyo na test paper ni Janser, pagod na raw siya," natatawang sumbong ni Daniel.
I noticed the five of them seated together at the rear of their classroom. Kuya Zhack and Janser were still occupied with their work, while the other three men were disrupting them.
Tumabi ako sa pintuan nang maglabasan na ang ibang estudyante. Napansin ako nung isang lalaki kaya lumapit siya sa akin. "Sinong kailangan mo?" tanong niya.
"Si Yhael po sana," magalang kong sagot.
Tumango naman siya bago muling sumilip sa classroom, sumilip din ako para makita si Yhael. "Hoy, Yhael, may babaeng naghihintay sa 'yo!" sigaw nung lalaki.
The girls who were still answering turned to me at the same time. I looked at Yhael who was approaching me. "O, anong ginagawa mo rito?" tanong niya sa akin..
"'Yung about sa sinasabi mo kanina. Yhael, nahuling may kodigo si Steffi at Flint sa kanilang locker. Ikaw ba ang gumawa no'n?" tanong ko kaagad.
"Wait lang, ah," sabi niya bago bumalik sa mga kaibigan. Kinuha niya ang kaniyang bag at nagpaalam na. "Ma'am, uwi na po kami!" paalam niya sa teacher sabay turo sa akin. Nakangiting tumango ang guro.
He put his arms around me like a troop. "Ano? Sagutin mo 'ko, Yhael," pamimilit ko sa kaniya.
Nangingiti siyang lumingon sa paligid. Napapatingin sa amin ang ibang mga estudyante.
"'Wag naman dito, Aphle. Nakakahiya, puro pa naman sila babae. Lalaki dapat ang nanliligaw," aniya. Nagkunwari pang nahihiya.
Kumunot naman ang noo ko. "Anong pinagsasasabi mo riyan?" kunot noo kong tanong. "Tinatanong kita about doon sa pagkahuli nung dalawa."
