"Sinong nakita mo?"
"H-How?"
Magkahalong saya, lito, at pangamba.
"The truth is… the heart is a traitor," she whispers.
I don't realize I've fallen asleep on Ate's shoulder while crying. I only wake up when I hear shouting outside the room.
I sit up and reach for Ate Grapes' mini mirror on the side table. I stare at my swollen eyes before putting it down.
I sigh when I hear Ate Grapes' voice again—this time coming from outside her room, where I am.
I cover my ears with a pillow as she shouts again, even louder.
I thought that if I fell asleep, the image of Yhael would fade from my mind. But it doesn't.
I wipe away the tears that fall from my eyes again. "What is it, Aphle?" I whisper to myself. "Ate Grapes is right. Maybe he just looked like Yhael. You saw how Yhael died—so how could he be here?" I cry softly.
I try to forget the day I saw someone who looked like Yhael. I haven't seen him again in the weeks that follow.
But sometimes, my eyes feel restless—like they're searching for something. And when I ask myself what—or who—I'm looking for, I can't answer.
Someone taps me, and I see Gino. He's just come from the cafeteria.
"Why are you blocking the hallway?" he asks.
He offers me a sandwich, but I don’t take it. "Nothing," I reply curtly.
I start walking into our building. Gino follows behind, munching noisily on his food.
"I've noticed something about you, Aphle," he says once he catches up.
"What is it?"
"You're often absent-minded. Are you okay?" he asks, worry in his voice.
