Chapter 14

"Ikaw na MM, Yhael!" sigaw ni Daniel nang mag-umpisa silang maglaro.

I lost focus on my cellphone and glanced at Yhael, who was deeply engrossed in playing Mobile Legends. Our conversation had started when he messaged me, "Ang galing mo palagi." With that simple message, he managed to reassure me in a way my own parents never could.

Kuya Zhack returned from the market, prompting Daniel to invite five others to join a ranked game. Sovie sat beside Kuya Zhack and Daniel, while Juniel and Janser were content sitting on the floor.

Yhael was the only one without company on the old double sofa. I stood near the door, scrolling through Facebook.

I was surprised when Yhael responded to my message almost instantly-even while he was in-game.

Sorry, in game. Tabi ka sa 'kin, bulong mo mga hinanakit mo.

I looked in his direction. He was simply playing on his cellphone. I approached him and sat beside him. I noticed Kuya Zhack briefly glance up at me before shifting his focus back to his cellphone. Sovie flashed me a playful smile.

"Ipagpatuloy mo 'yung kinukwento mo kanina. Makikinig ako," bulong niya sa akin.

"Can you do that? Playing while listening to my stories?" I asked.

Bahagya siyang tumango. "Multi-tasker kaya ako, kung hindi mo alam," mayabang niyang sinabi.

I kept venting my anger, talking incessantly even though I wasn't sure if he was truly listening. He could even yell at Daniel when they were facing challenges in the game.

"Hinaan mo kaya 'yung boses mo kapag namamatay ka," pangaral ko sa kaniya. "'Wag kang sigaw nang sigaw, okay?"

Tumango naman siya bago ako nagpatuloy sa pag-ke-kwento.

Mayamaya ay natapos na rin ako sa pag-ke-kwento pero hindi pa rin tapos ang first game nila. "Twenty-five minutes na. Ilang oras 'yan bago matapos?" Curious kong tanong.

"Nakadepende sa laban. Kung kanino unang mabasag na base, sila 'yung talo. May Victory diyan mamaya," mayabang niyang sinabi.

"Anong ibig sabihin no'n?" tanong ko ulit.

"Panalo kami," sagot niya.

"Paano niyo na-susure na panalo na kayo?" tanong ko kina Daniel.

Sabay-sabay silang sumagot. "Late game na. MM si Yhael, sure win!"

I turned to Yhael who now had a proud smile on his face.

"Anong pangalan niyan?" tanong ko ulit.

"Si Wanwan. Favorite MM hero ko," sagot niya.

"Sino 'yung may manika?"

"Angela, support hero."

"'Yung may buwan?"

"Si Chang E. Kalaban namin 'yon."

"Ang cute niya. Madali lang ba gamitin?" tanong ko ulit.

"Oo naman. Bakit? Gusto mo mag-try?"

"May practice ba riyan?"

"Meron. Lalaro ka?"

"Mamaya na. After niyo maglaro."

"Sige."

After their first game, which they won, Yhael invited another rank game. "Ako naman mage," sinabi nito.

"'Wag na, ikaw na lang ulit MM," reklamo ni Daniel.

"Ako muna mage, mamaya ako ulit MM," sambit ni Yhael.
