After he says that, he leaves. I let out a deep sigh, once again left alone inside this warehouse.
I don't even think about escaping because it's clear there's no hope.
Two days pass, and I remain inside. Some men bring me food. Even though I don't want to eat what they give me, I still do. I don't want to die yet. I still want to become a retired nurse someday.
The man who kidnapped me says he'll kill me slowly, but why does he keep sending me food?
Even if I can't escape, as long as they give me food, I will survive.
They don't just bring any food—it's the kind I used to eat when Mommy and Daddy were still alive.
After went abroad, I rarely ate expensive meals because all of Mommy and Daddy's savings were used to pay off the families they hurt.
Another day passes, and they finally remove the restraints from my feet and hands. Two men hold me by the shoulders to slowly lift me up.
"W-Where are you taking me?" I ask fearfully.
"'Wag ka nang maraming tanong," sagot ng isa. "Buti nga makakaalis kana sa lugar na 'to. Ang layo-layo nitong pinagkulungan sa'yo tapos hindi ka pala papatayin." Reklamo pa nito.
"Do you mean I'm going to be free?" I ask, my voice trembling. I feel like I've been reborn after several days of slowly dying inside.
Suddenly, he pushes me, and one of the men loses his grip on me. I stumble forward—out of that room at last—but there's still a long hallway ahead before I can reach the outside.
I can see the sunlight.
Muli niya akong hinawakan. "Makakalaya ka pero hindi ka makakalaya. Naiintindihan mo ba ako?" Tanong nito.
I frowned. I don't understand him. How can they say I'm free if I can't go home?
Nagulat ako nang biglang batukan ng isa pang lalaki ang lalaking kumakausap sa akin. "Tanga, hindi ka maiintindihan niyan. Anak mayaman 'yan kaya dapat English language only!"
Binatukan din ng lalaki ang bumatok sa kaniya. "Mas tanga ka!" Hinawakan muli ako ng lalaki. "Tara na nga, hinihintay ka na ng bago mong kulungan."
I let him hold me. I feel like a wilting rose again—I thought I was finally going to be free. I believed my kidnapper had taken pity on me and was about to release me. But it turns out, they're just moving me to another prison.
We get into a vehicle. It looks like the same car they used when they took me.
The car struggles to get out because we're deep in the forest. Why did they even drive into the woods? We could've just walked to the road.
While on the road, I keep looking outside the car. The night I want so badly to forget keeps flashing back in my mind.
I close my eyes to stop the memories. Maybe I'll just catch up on some sleep. I haven't slept properly since I was imprisoned.
I wake up immediately whenever someone enters the room. I guess I'm really afraid of dying, so I've been constantly on guard. I have no allies in that prison.
I wake up now because someone is gently slapping my cheek. I open my eyes and see a well-dressed man. He looks cheerful—he's smiling at me.
As soon as he notices I'm awake, he immediately looks away. "Cousins, she's awake!" he shouts. His voice is so loud it jolts me fully conscious.
I hear footsteps approaching. Then four more men appear. I'm stunned—it feels like I've been dropped into a soap opera, where the female lead is suddenly surrounded by male leads.
