Pagbalik namin sa camp ay umaambon na lang. We waited for it to cool down before the rest of my classmates could start cooking. I stayed inside the tent as I was feeling chilly.

As night fell, my cold worsened. I also felt dizzy, so Sovie insisted that I remain indoors to eat. She brought the food into the tent for me. Sovie assisted me in sitting up as I felt weighed down. She also helped me take the medicine provided by Yhael.

After finishing my meal, I reclined once more. I gazed outside the tent and noticed the silhouette of a man. "Wait a minute, Aphle. Tingnan ko lang kung sinong nasa labas," Sovie said before leaving. I nodded in acknowledgment.

As she stepped out, I overheard her calling out Sir Zade's name. "Does she have a high fever?" Sir Zade inquired. Perhaps he was referring to me.

"Opo, Sir," sagot kaagad ni Sovie.

"I’ll fetch some water for her. We need to wipe her down to help her feel better," Sir Zade instructed, then turned away from Sovie and walked off.

Sovie entered the tent and looked for a towel to use.

Shortly after, Sir Zade returned. Instead of coming inside, he stayed outside, as our three other tentmates had also arrived by then.

Sovie gently wiped my body—starting from my face, then down to my neck, arms, and legs. She even lent me her socks to keep me warm. Instead of scolding me for getting sick through my own carelessness, she simply lay beside me, wrapped her arms around me, and closed her eyes.

By morning, my fever had completely disappeared. That was when she finally scolded me. As we packed up and prepared to leave, she continued to lecture me.

"Ilang beses ba kitang sinabihan na 'wag na tayong sumama? Ang kulit-kulit mo kasi. Inapoy ka na naman tuloy ng lagnat kagabi," sermon niya.

I gave her a faint smile. "I'm feeling better now. You understand why I acted that way. It was for all of us," I explained.

She composed herself before speaking once more. "Hindi naman palaging dapat ikaw ang nag-sa-sacrifice para sa lahat. Minsan, kailangan mong isipin ang magiging epekto sa 'yo nang paggawa mo ng mabuti," aniya.

I nodded in agreement. "Yes, Mommy. It won't happen again," I replied with a childlike tone.

Umirap siya sa akin. "Hindi ako naniniwalang hindi na 'yan mauulit. Tigas-tigas pa naman ng ulo mo," aniya.

I simply smiled and tugged her out of the tent after we finished folding our laundry, hoping to stop her from continuing her lecture.

Once the entire class had packed up and gathered outside, we waited for Sir Zade’s signal before leaving the forest together.

We arrived safely at school. Since Kuya Zhack didn't come to pick up Sovie, we said our goodbyes.

As I walked away, my phone suddenly rang. I pulled it from my pocket and saw Mommy's name on the screen—my heart immediately filled with anxiety, fearing that something was wrong.

Then, my phone slipped from my hand, and I stopped in front of a café. Tears welled up in my eyes as I stared at my trembling hand. I tried to steady it, but the shaking only grew worse.

Just then, I noticed a motorcycle approaching. The rider’s face was hidden beneath a helmet. As the motor came to a stop, the rider hastily removed the helmet—and my tears fell. It's Yhael.

He rushed toward me, his eyes widening the moment he saw my trembling hand.

"Anong nangyari?" Rinig sa kaniyang boses ang labis na pag-aalala sa akin.
