Three more days pass. My daily routine doesn’t change. Every morning when I wake up, I eat breakfast before cleaning the room.

At noon, while waiting for the food to arrive, I watch a movie on the television. I also try experimenting with the TV, hoping it can access social media like some flat screens—but this one can’t.

After lunch, I take a bath and then sleep until the afternoon. When I wake up, I watch the sunset through the sliding door. I only draw the curtains once the sun has set.

I wait for dinner to arrive, eat, then watch TV again until I feel sleepy and eventually fall asleep.

It’s repetitive and boring. I’m not used to this kind of life. I’m more used to always having something to do. Unlike now, where I feel like a princess locked away.

One day, Lei visits me again. I haven’t seen her in a few days.

She greets me with a big smile. "My brother is coming home," she says happily. I nod. "I’m going to pick him up at the airport later. Do you want me to buy you something?"

I shake my head. I don’t have any hobbies. I’m not into reading romantic books or drawing.

She sits beside me on the bed. "I know you’re getting bored here. Don’t worry, later I’ll convince Ysmael to let you out of this room."

I shake my head bitterly. "He definitely won’t allow it. He’ll think I’m trying to escape."

"Then I’ll go with you," she says. "You won’t be able to get away from me. I even studied karate," she adds proudly.

She starts thinking of another way for me to get out.

"I’m fine here, Lei," I say with a small smile.

She sighs. "It’s obvious you’re not," she replies.

"I can endure the boredom. What matters is that I get to eat and sleep in a proper room," I say, forcing another smile.

We fall silent for a moment. She just stares at me. Then I suddenly remember something.

"D-Do you have any news about Ate Grapes?" I ask. "Is it true that your family kidnapped her too?"

She nods sadly. "She’s currently under Xantheus’ care," she replies.

I nod. "Is she okay? Where is she? Is she eating properly?" I ask, worried.

She looks at me apologetically. "I don’t know. I’m actually more worried about her because it’s Xantheus who’s watching over her."

"He might hurt my sister," I say anxiously.

She holds both of my hands. "I’m sure he won’t. Even though Xantheus sees your family in a bad light, he would never hurt a woman."

"I just hope he doesn’t hurt my sister," I say, tears welling in my eyes.

"Here’s what I’ll do, so you don’t keep worrying. I’ll call Xantheus later to find out how your sister is doing. Then I’ll tell you right away, okay?" she says. "Don’t worry about your sister anymore. I’ll scold Xantheus if he does anything wrong to her."

"Thank you so much, Lei,” I say, on the verge of tears.

She shakes her head with a smile. "It’s nothing, Aphle. I’m really kind to people who are kind to me. And I don’t see anything bad in you."

"I’m angry at your parents. But only at them. There should be boundaries," she says with a small laugh. "If you’re angry at someone, direct it only at that person. Don’t drag innocent people into it."
