Backyard gardens have a long season if you don't have a super early winter oncoming that is. Early vegetables to be enjoyed are lettuce and new potatoes. Mothers look forward to picking those small young potatoes early in the summer. Other vegetables continued to grow throughout the summer until cold weather when the plants would die and the rest of the potatoes could be dug up.
The fruit of the Spirit is like a continuous vegetable garden. The season lasts our whole life, and every day provides an abundance. Think of the variety of the gifts the Spirit cultivates: love, joy, and peace alone would be a wonderful trio that could be our spiritual meal every day.
But that's not all. Look at the next three: patience, kindness, and goodness. These are the ones we might not immediately seek, but they are the ones that best renew our relationships and fill us.
Then there are the last three: faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the finishing touches that complete the spiritual meal, blessing both ourselves and others.
And they are ours, by the Spirit, sent by the Savior, for each of us. What a timeless harvest!
