“Hane, they're many more maids who could help arrange my clothes, you don't have to do it.” I said truthfully to Hane who didn't seem to want to listen.
She was arranging my clothes into the closet and I just didn't like her doing it. Although she claims to still be my maid, she's also a friend and I don't like to consider her a maid.
She turned to me before returning her gaze to the clothes. “I want to do this, I also don't want to trust anyone to just touch your personal stuff.”
She always care for me like an older sister. “I think you're just sweet and I like it, but that doesn't mean I feel comfortable with you doing chores for me. You're supposed to be my personal assistant who ensures I'm not bored not arrange my clothes.”
“I could do both.” She was holding one of my clothes then a picture fell out of the pocket.
She picked the paper, staring at it with curiosity. “Is this you when you were younger? And-And is this your mom?”
She walked over to hand me the picture which I took from her. Staring at it, I felt myself close to tears.
It was a picture of me, Suzy and my mom. I was just ten years of age. Although I didn't remember when the picture was taken, I recalled the cloth i was wearing being the best cloth I had.
I didn't even realize when Hane took a seat beside me on the bed. “Is she your mom?” She asked again.
“Yes.” That was the highest my voice could go else it might come out with tears.
“How did she die?” She asked in a low tone.
I took a deep breath as I recalled all the memories. Tears trembling on the brink of my eyes.
Hane seemed to have noticed I was hesitant to speak. “You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, I won't force you to.”
“No, it's not like I can keep it in forever.” I sighed.
Hane was silent, obviously waiting for me to keep going, and pour out my mind.
“Well, she died thirteen years ago when I was just twelve years of age.” My voice was just above a whisper because thinking about it made me chapfallen.
“It was all because of some crazy son of a bitch.” Even thinking about him made my blood boil and the loathe I already had for him worsened.
“Crazy son of a bitch?” She asked.
“Yes, his name's Kelvin. He's been on my hate list ever since he caused my mom's death.”
“How did he kill her?” She asked but quickly added. “if you don't mind me asking.”
“Well, he was obviously from a wealthy family. I had no idea who he was when I first met him.” I felt anger rising in me.
“I just bumped into the useless idiot but he didn't care, all he wanted was to seek revenge.” I tightened my grip on the photo. “My mom had no money to use to feed Suzy and I and we were heading to Kelvin's house for help but because I bumped into the fucking shitty son of the ‘Mrs Nice Woman’.” Gosh I hadn't said her name in years.
“He was hesitant on her not helping us and no matter how much we pleaded with them to forgive us, the useless husband had his own plans.” I scoffed.
“He hated my mom so much, he was happy to finally have a chance to kick us out.”
“What happened next?” She sounded like she was watching her words.
“Well, we had no idea where to get food again and my mom died from hunger.”
Hane gasped, placing a hand on my shoulder. “I'm so sorry.”
“You don't have to be, it's all Kelvin's fault.” My brows were pulled together in a deep frown.
I hadn't talked about him in years and speaking about him reminded me of why I hated him and needed to make him know why he should never have done something like that.
“So what happened afterwards? What happened to you and Suzy?” Her curiosity bought a smile to my face.
“Well, we knew the government would probably take us to an orphanage home and we'd probably end up with different parents so we begged our uncle to take us in with him.
“It wasn't comfortable for him to take care of 3 children, including his useless son but I appreciated his efforts and always tried my best to be of help.
“When I turned 15, I came back with Suzy because I was certain my uncle could no longer be of help as he had his own life matters to settle. So that's how I ended up living there for ten years till Don changed me for the better.”
“Wow, you have such a sad story. I feel so bad for you.” She looked exactly how she'd said she felt.
“Thanks a lot.”
“And what do you think you'd do to this Kelvin guy if you ever found him.”
That was a question I'd gotten an answer to years ago. “Avenge my mother's death and make him pay for what he did.”
This was a discussion I hadn't had in years and Hane made me pour it all out, I was grateful.
She pulled me to a tight hug. “You shouldn't keep any thing to heart for long, okay?”
I smiled, hugging her back. “Okay, big sister.”
She chuckled, releasing me from the hug. “Let me get back to my arranging.”
