The day had finally arrived. It was Kate's wedding today and I had never felt so excited to attend a wedding.
It felt like I was attending my own sister's wedding.
Hane had done my hair and makeup for me and I just couldn't help but be amazed at how beautiful I looked.
I'd worn a purple ankle length gown which popped out my curves, showing a decent amount of my cleavage.
"You look really pretty." Hane commented, while I just continued admiring myself in the mirror.
I pivoted, scanning her from head to toe. "You look very pretty also."
That wasn't a lie. She had on an off-shoulder knee length gown that I'd gotten her with a silver necklace and earrings.
We both had on a purple high heel. I'd gotten us matching heels, just to show our friendship.
She blushed. "Thank you."
"Why don't we head to the car?"
"Okay."
We both sauntered out of her room to the parlor where we sited Don probably on his way to work.
He turned to me, his jaw dropping at my sight.
"How do I look?" I twirled, heading to him as his hands found their way round my waist.
"You look so beautiful. Gorgeous." He pressed his lips against mine gently, probably trying not to ruin my lipstick.
"Right?" I used both thumbs to clean the lipstick stains on his lips.
"I hope you enjoy yourself at the wedding." He planted a kiss on my thumbs that suddenly didn't feel right to leave his lips.
Finally pulling it from his lips, I replaced my hands around his neck. "I might come home a little late so don't wait for me too long, okay?"
I ran my hand through his perfectly combed hair. "Also, don't stay too long at work, okay?"
"Yes ma'am." His voice was hoarse, as he tickled my waist causing a giggle to erupt out of my throat.
I pulled away from him, suddenly remembering Hane's presence and how awkward she must feel.
"Oh well, I'll get going then."
"Aren't you taking any bodyguards along?" He asked with a raised brow.
I shook my head with a slight shrug. "Nah, Kate doesn't like much dramas and what could be more dramatic than ten men walking with you into a wedding hall."
"Okay then, if you say so."
I smiled at him, turning to Hane who seemed so out of place. I gave her a nod indicating I was ready to leave.
We both went to the car whose door was opened by a bodyguard who closed it as soon as we were in.
Hane did a quick glance at her watch. "Oh no, we're late." She muttered but I heard her.
The car had started moving. I turned to Hane. "Is there a problem?"
"Yeah, we're supposed to be there in five minutes so we will take a photo with Kate one last time as a single lady." She sighed. "I also wanted to see how everything is before the wedding starts."
"And we won't be able to do that?" I had a feeling it was my fault. Maybe I'd spent too much time with Don earlier.
She shook her head in dejection. "Only if we pass the short route and trust me, people like you aren't meant to be there."
I feigned annoyance, crossing my arms over my chest. "People like me? What's that supposed to mean?"
She chuckled. "I mean, you're a multibillionaire's wife, you don't want to be passing corners to some maid's wedding."
"Some maid's wedding?" I was so lost of words, creasing my forehead, I continued. "And don't forget I wasn't born with a silver spoon. I suffered a lot till I got to where I am."
"So you want to pass the shortcut?" She sounded surprised.
"Yeah."
She gave the driver the direction and soon, the car came to a halt. She was right, it wasn't far.
We both got down from the car. She turned to the driver. "This is a corner, your car won't fit so why don't you meet us at the wedding hall. Pass the long route."
He nodded, then zoomed off.
We both started walking into the dirty and extremely silent and tight corners.
"Are you sure we're heading in the right direction?" I had to ask, when there was no sign of a wedding hall.
Hane was leading the way in front and she nodded. "I pass this route every time I want to check out the wedding plans."
Suddenly, her phone started vibrating. Still walking, she answered it. "Her Kate, I'm almost there."
The caller I was now sure was Kate was probably saying something as Hane was silent for a while.
"Oh come on, don't shout at me, I'm walking in a dirty corner with my rich boss just for you and you're here shouting at me." She sounded agitated and I wondered why but again silence.
"Oh come on, I said I'm almost there gah, bye." Then she hung up, still walking in front.
"Is everything alright?" I had to ask when the silence was killing me.
With her back still facing me, she nodded. "Yeah, Kate's just-"
Before she finished her statement. I heard a scream of agony and soon realized it was from me after the hard substance had landed on my head from behind.
Hane turned with widened eyes. "Eri!" Her voice sounded like she was speaking into the sea.
The world started fading as I could feel myself slipping from my feat. I was on the floor.
I was sure Hane was screaming something but I couldn't hear again. My eyes shut but open to see Hane running closer. Shut and open again with Hane closer to me.
As much as I wanted to stay conscious, I just couldn't and was greeted by a blackout.
-Don Jones-
Work was tiresome without Eri. I was already missing her though I knew I was going to see her when she came back from the wedding.
My phone began vibrating from where it lay on the desk.
Hoping it was Eri, I scurried from the couch to the desk, picking it up. A pinch of disappointment passing through me when I noticed it wasn't Eri.
But curiosity overtook it when I realized it was an Australian number.
That was strange. Although I knew some Australians, I didn't think any would think to call.
Well, only one way to find out. I answered the call. "Hello."
"Don Jones?" Even weirder, it wasn't a voice I recognized.
"Yes, and who may I be speaking with?"
"I am Hames Grig." Not a name I was familiar with. "I was the one in charge of the investigation on how Mrs Jones almost drowned."
Oh yeah, that case. I hadn't forgotten about it. "Oh."
"Well, I found out who pushed her into the pool."
I sat straight in concentration. "Who is it?"
