The sound of mumbled words filled my hearing. I could feel my neck hurting. I felt a cough stuck somewhere in my throat, desperately pleading for me to rescue it, but I had a feeling if I did, it'd come with much pain.

“She'd be fine.” A voice I knew I'd heard before but couldn't quite recognize.

“Okay, thanks a lot.” That was Don's voice.

What were they talking about and why were they talking about it while I was asleep?

Couldn't they be anywhere but here?

My head suddenly began hurting, giving me a feeling I wasn't asleep.

I gently pushed my eyes open. At first I was greeted by the white ceiling, then turning my head, I sighted a crying Hane.

To my other side was a worried Don. And at the door was a man leaving with someone else I assumed to be a bodyguard.

What was going on? Well, only one way to find out. “What's wrong with you two?”

They both turned to me in shock. “You're awake.” Hane let out a breath of relief. “Thank goodness you're safe.”

I sat up on the bed. “Of course I'm safe, why wouldn't I b—” Immediately, everything came running back to my memory.

“Are you alright? Do you feel hurt anywhere?” Don rushed to sit beside me.

“June? Where is she?” I pulled my brows in anger and panic.

“Listen, calm down. You shouldn't stress yourself.” He tried to place his hand on mine but I slapped it away. Tears threatening to fall down my cheeks.

“Calm down? You know neither of this would be happening if you'd just involved the police.” I sniffed in.

Hane stood up, bowing before leaving. She probably knew the time to leave us to have a private talk.

“I know, it's—”

“I pleaded with you to involve the police.” A tear dropped down my cheek, I didn't bother wiping it off.

“I told you she was a psycho. I told you to just arrest her but you refused.” The tears were now pouring out more.

I mean, I almost died. What would have happened if they hadn't come sooner? I would probably be gone by now.

“I told you I didn't want anything to happen. Now that I was almost killed, are you happy? Is that what you wanted before you got your brain working to involve the cops?”

He stared at me, embarrassment evident in his expression but he said nothing and just stared.

“Have you forgotten I have a family who may actually be affected if anything was to happen to me?”

At that point, I couldn't control the streaming tears pouring out of me. “I'm just twenty-five, I don't want to leave the world yet because of marriage.”

The last sentence was followed by a worrying silence, but it was the truth. If he wasn't taking this seriously then I might lose my life.

I thought it wasn't a big deal at first, but the feeling when she choked me. I never wanted to feel that way anymore.

I love Don, but I also have a sister and best friend that loves me.

I'd just known Don for a year but I'd known Suzy for twenty one years and Rose for ten years. Unfortunately, I wouldn't risk their sanity for marriage.

“Where's she?” I finally broke the silence, although I was sure it had placed a small scar to our marriage.

He sighed, looking anywhere but me. “She escaped.” It came out just above a whisper.

My heart was racing faster than ever. “What?”

She was still out there, probably plotting different means to hurt me. She wanted to kill me and she was still out there.

I glared at him. “Are you still not involving the cops?”

Finally he stared at me, guilt playing on his expression. “I called them already.”

At least, I'd stopped crying. “At least you can care enough to do that.”

“Eri.” He sounded apologetic, but that didn't stop me from being annoyed.

Gently, he wrapped both hands of mine in both hands of his, staring like he thought I'd snap my hands out of his grip.

“I'm very sorry for not reporting this sooner.” His voice was low and soft. “I guess I just though June was a girl of words but no action, that's what she'd been for fifteen years.”

“Well now she's taking action and trying to kill me.” I looked away from him in annoyance.

“I'm sorry about that. Please, look at me.” He shifted closer.

Finally, I turned to him. Seeing him, I realized how much fear must have gripped him when he thought I was dead.

He was also scared and although this was partly his fault, I was being too harsh on him.

I placed my gaze to his huge hands literally bottling my now tiny looking own. “I'm sorry I reacted that way.”

I sighed. “It's just, when you are face to face with death and just by a tiny chance, you are saved. Things just annoy you, like, the fear just takes over your sanity.”

When I stared at him, his expression had softened. “I'm sorry for putting you through that.”

“It's okay. You've apologized enough.”

Then agitation and detest was glowing in him. “June did this to you and I promise to make sure she regrets it for as long as she lives.”

“And make sure she does not ever come between our marriage.” I added.

“I've sent the police to her house and hopefully they'd find her.”

Then, a question popped to my head. “How did she escape?”

“Well, when I arrived, I was more shocked to see you unconscious than to see her standing there in fear. I rushed to you, screaming at Hane to call the doctor and I guess that was her chance to run off.”

“How did she get here anyways? What about the security?” My curiosity was high at that point.

Don seemed deep in thought. “Even I don't know.” He paused, then continued. “Maybe she's working with one of the security. I'll fire them all and get new trustworthy ones.”

Although I felt bad some innocent people may actually be losing their jobs, I didn't want to lose my life and had to agree with it.
