Remember M'Dear's Roast?

My alarm was going off in my ear. I took a deep breath and turned it off. I sat up, not wanting to move. The nap was definitely worth it. I finally forced myself to get off of my bed and move to my vanity. I sat down with a yawn and rubbed my eyes. I just sat there trying to wake up while staring in the mirror. I decided to turn some music on to get me in the mood to move. After that, I began working on my makeup. I didn't want to ask my mom for help with the makeup because she will want to go over the top with it and I only wanted something super natural and lightweight. Just some little things like mascara, lipgloss, maybe some concealer, we'll see. I just went with the flow while singing my heart out. While I was in the process of deciding what I was going to do with my hair, my mom walked in.
Candy: "I'm about to go to Roman's. Is there anything you need before I leave?"
Y/n: "Actually yes, two things. Number one, is the makeup okay?"
Candy: "Yes! You look beautiful my love. Not that you need makeup to be beautiful cause you are naturally beautiful."
I smiled.
Y/n: "Thank you, okay now number 2...I need help deciding what to do with my hair. I have a couple things saved on my Pinterest board."
I said pulling it up. I handed her my phone and watched as she scanned through the options.
Candy: "This one."
Y/n: "Okayyy....thats all I needed."
She laughed at me for taking a break to think about anything I needed.
Candy: "Call me if you need anything, and I mean ANYTHING."
Y/n: "Yes mommm"
I said as she left my room. I shook my head.
Y/n: "She loves that man...I know she does. Wait if they get married he becomes my stepdad- EWWW! Roman? My stepdad?? That would take some time to get used to."
I said talking out loud to myself. I pushed the thought down and began on my hair. The style wasn't that elaborate so I finished it pretty quick. I got a text that Shaka would be leaving to come get me in five minutes. I got up from my vanity and went downstairs to unlock the front door for him. I still had to put the dress on, put my shoes on, and pack a little bag for the night. I texted him back and let him know that the door was unlocked and to just come in when he got here. I quickly put my dress on and started collecting things around my room that I was bringing. As I was sliding my shoes on I heard the door open.
Shaka: "Y/n! I'm here!"
Y/n: "I'm coming!"
I turned off all of the lights in my room and upstairs before I started walking down the stairs. Shaka turned around before I completely came down the stairs. His eyebrows raised as I stepped down the last step.
Y/n: "Is the makeup too much?"
He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards him.
Shaka: "It's not too much. Although you really don't need it. You're already beautiful."
He said looking me up and down. I smiled as he made me do a spin while I was still holding his hand. I just let out a giggle.
Y/n: "Thank you Shaka."
He pulled me by my hand and gave me a kiss.
Shaka: "The matching worked out perfectly too."
Y/n: "Perfectly for what?"
Shaka: "Nothing..."
He touched his lips.
Shaka: "Is this lipgloss?"
I laughed and rubbed my thumbs across his lips.
Y/n: "I'm so sorry"
Shaka: "It's okay...I'd do it again."
Y/n: "Whatever Shaka"
I said smiling before I dragged him out the door. I locked it before we began walking over to the McKellans' house. He led me around to the backyard where it was all decorated and ready for M'Dear. I saw some older people who I didn't know, but I assumed they were M'Dear's friends. Jade told me that she hadn't been acting like herself so maybe having her friends here will cheer her up. We walked in and were immediately met with the other McKellan kids.
Jade: "Ohhhh Y/n. You are killing it in that dress!"
Ami: "So pretty boo"
I smiled at them.
Y/n: "Thank you!"
I looked over at Mazzi.
Y/n: "Hey Mazzi"
Mazzi: "Hey Y/n"
We all walked over to a table. There were only four chairs, so I was going to go grab another chair, but Shaka insisted that I just sit on his lap. I was very hesitant because I'm not as small as I used to be, but he said I could grab a chair when M'Dear came out. I sat on his lap and immediately thought about the first time we did this. We seemed so little, it was definitely before puberty hit. It was after Shaka had burnt the kitchen so we had to go eat at a fancy restaurant. But remember, we ran out because they had saw a couple that they had met on their crazy roadtrip. We ended up eating on the porch and listening to their roadtrip story. Shaka sat in the rocking chair and I sat in his lap. Oh what a time that was, before everything went south. It's okay now though, we haven't had any drama since the whole Morgan thing. Anyways, back to the roast. I sat on Shaka's lap and talked to the other kids about everything. I also was tearing up some of the shrimp Mr. Jeb had made because they were sooo good.
Y/n: "Guys, I think my mom's in love!"
Mazzi: "Really?"
Jade: "With who?"
Shaka: "Roman"
Y/n: "Yeah, she's over there right now. That's why she 'couldn't make it.' "
I said doing air quotes.
Ami: "We should've known on Halloween. Roman had that look in his eyes that I see dad give to mom all of the time."
Y/n: "But think about this. If they get married, he'll be my step dad"
They all cringed in some sort of way.
Mazzi: "That's gonna be so weird. Imagine calling him Dad after know him as Roman for so long."
Jade: "You'll probably hear salsa music all day long."
Y/n: "Trust me, that's been happening. Ask Shaka."
Shaka: "Every time I'm over there, I swear I hear it coming from Ms. Candy's room."
Y/n: "It lingers"
Shaka: "Yep"
Y/n: "Messes with your brain"
Shaka: "Mmhmm"
Y/n: "I have to put headphones on and blast music to keep from going crazy."
Mazzi: "I bet, but you know me, I love all music."
Y/n: "Until it gets overplayed."
I said shaking my head.
Y/n: "It doesn't even have any words either so it's easier for the melody to be catchy."
Before we could continue, Grace started to make an announcement.
Grace: "Okay everyone! My dad is going to go get M'Dear. Now, when she comes out everyone scream suprise!"
We all nodded or responded in understanding and sat in wait. After about five minutes, Grace went to go check on M'Dear and Mr. Jeb because they were taking a while. After a couple more minutes, the gate opened.
M'Dear: "Where is every—"
All: "Surprise!!"
There was M'Dear, not dressed up, in her night gown and bonnet.
M'Dear: "Oh hell! Ahhh!"
She said snatching her bonnet off, pushing Grace into the fence, and running off. I looked between the McKellan kids.
Mazzi: "Somebody's gonna pay for that."
Ami: "Yep"
Y/n: "Mhm"
Jade: "Yeah... Let's just get ahead of it and blame Shaka."
We all fist bumped while Shaka mugged us.
Ami: "Good idea"
Jade: "I know"
Y/n: "Sorry Shaka... love you though"
I said giving Mazzi a high five.
