In honor of the Love Thy Neighbor series coming to a close, I wanted to share some ideas that I had throughout all four books that I decided not to put in the final cut!
I'm gonna start with book one and make my way to book 4.

Love Thy Neighbor ~ Part 1
Originally, I was going to have Shaka and the rest of the kids go over to Y/n's house to meet her instead of her going over to the McKellan's to meet them. It was going to have to do with M'Dear telling them to go meet the neighbor because they were being too loud, crazy, or destructive. Either Y/n introduction would have worked, but since I wanted her to be somewhat outgoing so I had her go meet them instead.
I also almost sent Y/n with Shaka on the road trip to Seattle and back, but then that would have defeated the purpose of them retelling the story because, one, Y/n would have already been there on the trip, and two, it would add chapters in-between "How this all started" and "Charlie Wilson" because the roadtrip would canonically fall in between those chapters. It would have been good for y'all because that meant more chapters to read, but my 13-year-old self did not want to write extra stuff at that time. 😂
I almost wrote chapters for "the First Day of School" episode, and I would have introduced Brooke to Shaka like in the episode and caused conflict. Shaka would be torn between the two, making it hard to decide who he really liked. Then I thought about book two and the dance battle that I wanted between Shaka and Y/n, so that's why Brooke didn't show up and how Candy became Y/n's mom.
Love Thy Neighbor ~ Part 2
(Y/n's Favorites)
Y/n getting beat up was a last minute decision, lol, but it was to add to everything that goes wrong. It was just going to go to the next chapters with no injuries, but I changed my mind. This also means that the rest of the book and the books that were coming would have been completely different because Y/n's mom wouldn't have forbade her from seeing Shaka in the first place.
There's nothing else super serious that I can add to the list for this book.
Love Thy Neighbor ~ Part 3

In the book, Shaka had bought Y/n a vest when they were still not seeing each other at all and finally gave it to her after he sees her for the first time. Y/n then learns that he was thinking of her the whole time. That was not the original plan 😭 I was originally not gonna make him think of her at all to make the story even deeper, but I thought dying (😅) was enough so I changed it slightly lmaooo
I almost had Y/n go to the dance when Shaka was going with Jinji Star to cause a little conflict. I was going to have Y/n go and look so pretty causing Shaka to get distracted from his date with Jinji. Naturally, Jinji would post about it and it would show that Shaka was willing to give up his new image for Y/n.
I almost didn't write Shaka finding out about the abuse in this book. I was going to have Mazzi and Y/n keep it a secret until book four.
I started the book off by having Y/n be homeschooled, but I quickly put her back in school because there was a good amount of school scenes in this season.
Love Thy Neighbor ~ Part 4
(They say Love Thy Neighbor, but not anymore...)
This book was pretty much set in stone, but I almost didn't have the Valentine's Day chapter. I also wasn't going to make Mazzi that aggressive during that one period of time, but it added to the pranking storyline so I kept it.
This book almost didn't have a happy ending either. Well, it would have been happy, but they wouldn't have got back together.
With that though, I almost changed my mind and had Y/n end up with Mazzi as a plot twist. This is probably controversial because I know a lot of you would have rather ended up with Mazzi because of how he was treating Y/n compared to Shaka. This IS a Shaka fan fiction so I felt that I HAD to choose him, but I do have a Mazzi story that a lot of people liked called "The Arts" that you guys should definitely check out 😁
