"Dad, she's awake!" Gohan called outside as Cross stirred, his father pausing his talks with Bulma to rush in.
"So, like, how old are you?" Gohan asked innocently. "You looked older before."
Cross sat up. "It's a gift of mine."
Behind Goku were Bulma, Yamcha, Krillin, Piccolo, and Chi-Chi.
"Little girls shouldn't be getting into world-ending fights! Where are your parents?" Chi-Chi demanded.
"Dead," Cross said flatly, "consumed in a black hole that took my entire planet with them."
Chi-Chi had no words. Cross stretched for a moment. "Also, I'm not a kid, as I was explaining to..."
"Gohan," he answered formally and politely, motioning to the others. "That's my dad Goku, my mom Chi-Chi, Mr. Piccolo, Puar, Yamcha, Krillin, Chiaotzu, and Ms. Bulma."
Cross nodded. "I have the ability to get a second wind when I push my limit by burning my mass for energy. To prevent me from fighting with only one arm or leg, my body shrinks me to an earlier state."
She paused to motion to her body. "This is actually well within my safety range. I can double or halve my mass with ease as long as I'm well-fed. After a good meal, I can return to my previous form."
As Cross finished explaining her abilities, Goku stepped forward, curiosity gleaming in his eyes. "So, you can change your size and power level at will? That's amazing! I'd love to spar with you sometime."
Cross chuckled. "Maybe once I'm back to full strength. I wouldn't want to embarrass you in front of your son."
Gohan giggled. "Dad's pretty strong, but I think you'd give him a run for his money!"
Chi-Chi, still looking concerned, crossed her arms. "Just make sure you don't get hurt again. We've had enough injuries for one day."
Cross nodded. "I'll be careful, I promise."
Yamcha, leaning against the wall, chimed in. "So, you're from another Earth? What's it like there?"
Cross sighed. "It was peaceful, until the black hole incident. Now, I travel between worlds, trying to prevent similar disasters."
Krillin, always the optimist, smiled. "Well, you're in good company here. We've faced our share of world-ending threats and come out on top."
Piccolo, who had been silent until now, spoke up. "Your ability to adapt and change your form is impressive. It could be a valuable asset for the future."
Cross nodded. "I'll do whatever I can to help. I owe you all for saving me back there."
"Well, in that case," Bulma took Cross's arm, "let me treat you. The boys need to find Piccolo's old ship so we can find Namek and build something to fly us there to revive Tien."
"What do you mean...revive?"
"Oh, the Dragon Balls. They can grant any wish, including reviving the dead, if we act fast enough. But we used ours to revive Goku and need to wait a year."
Cross was silent, processing it all.
'They could revive the dead...could this dragon...'
She shook her head, her voice soft. "Too much time, and too many dimensions over."
Bulma stopped as they reached her hover car. "Oh right, I overheard you. You lost your whole world."
Cross nodded.
"I wish we could do something."
Cross puffed out her chest and smiled. "It was years ago, I've moved on. Now I've dedicated my life to making sure other Earths don't share my fate."
"It was Earth?" Bulma sounded confused. "What, like time travel?"
"Parallel Earths. It's an entire thing. It's complicated."
"I bet. You also have some impressive tech as well, according to the boys. I'm something of an inventor myself. Made our Dragon Radar to track the balls. And we'll have to figure out something for this Namek trip."
"If it's in space, you can leave that to me. Once I get it repaired, my train can get us anywhere in space. I just need directions."
Bulma beamed. "I've gotta take a look at all your tech."
Cross smiled. "Always a pleasure to talk shop with another tech head."
