Gohan tried to ease everyone's nerves by serving tea in her cat girl maid form, but this only made Chi-Chi more furious. "Gohan, now is not the time for you to be using that form! You're a boy, act like it!"
Gohan gave an apologetic bow. "Sorry, Mom, but this form is best equipped for fighting. I have mastered all of my special techniques in this form."
Chi-Chi was still fuming. "But we're not fighting right now, are we? Gohan, turn back into a boy and stop acting so foolish."
Gohan nodded and obliged. The atmosphere in the train was tense as Goku and Cross used special techniques to heal their wounds.
Krillin, in particular, wasn't a fan of trying to destroy 18 or her brother, as they seemed so young and innocent.
Trunks argued that it was merely an appearance, that they were still killer androids.
But Cross was not so sure, shaking her head. "Thanks to my training and the ability to do partial transformations, I was able to use my mech senses to scan them. As I feared, the blonde and the black-haired ones are not androids, not machines. They are bio-androids or, more appropriately, cyborgs—humans augmented by technology. The redhead is a full machine. This means there's a very real chance Dr. Gero has altered their minds with cybernetic implants, and I can't in good conscience destroy them as they could be victims of his mad science. The solution I've come to help them would mean relying on a power that leaves a bad taste in my mouth."
"You're talking about your telepathy, aren't you?" Gohan nailed it. "It's one thing to use that power to share your memories with us. It's another to invade someone else's memories as it was done to you, correct?"
Cross nodded. "Even if their minds have been altered, it makes me feel dirty to do the same thing that he would do so casually, and so I hesitate to do it."
Vegeta scoffed. "You know it's different to enter someone's mind if you're removing alterations done by a third party than to be the one doing those alterations in the first place. In one case, you're saving a person, and in the other, you're enslaving them. That itself is an indication of morality."
Cross took a deep breath and nodded. "My sister would say the same thing. When we were created, she drew from that part of our life and was more comfortable using that power, though even she felt uneasy using it freely because of how we gained it. But she often said that it's not the source of the power that defines its morality but rather how you choose to use it. The power doesn't define the person. Even knowing this and knowing what she would say in this instance, I feel uneasy so freely using a tainted gift."
She held out her hand for the others. "Maybe it would be easier if you saw what he used it on me for. I warn you, these memories are not pleasant."
The group reached out and took her hand. Whatever the experiences were, they trusted Cross, and they needed to understand why she was so hesitant to use this power.
