King Cold gloated at the stranger, noting the sword on his back. "I see some type of special weapon. Is that how you believe you'll be able to defeat us? May I see it?"
Confused, Trunks shrugged and handed over his weapon. The king looked it over with bored amusement before handing it back. "This really won't do the job at all. It's rather plain and uninspired in design."
Then the stranger transformed into a Super Saiyan, his eyes a cold green-teal, his hair standing up like spikes from a hedgehog. In one swift flurry of movements, he drew his sword and diced the king and his son to pieces before leveling a series of ki blasts at the ship, destroying it utterly. He casually powered down and turned to walk off.
"That's one less threat for Goku to deal with."
---
Cross panted as she finally caught up with Vegeta's group, her wings exhausted. The trio of Saiyans looked over at her with disgust. "What do you need from us? Did you drag yourself here to gloat over our foolery?" Vegeta sneered.
"The opposite, in fact. I know what it feels like to see your home go up in smoke and be unable to stop it."
Raditz scoffed. "What does a human know of Frieza? You stand on your home as we speak."
Cross took a long breath. "This is Earth, but it is not my Earth. I come from the universe next door. I presume, as a spacefaring race, you're aware of the concept of parallel realities."
Nappa nodded. "That's basic space physics. Of course, we're aware of the concept, though there's no proof of it."
"I am proof. I am from the universe next door." Cross steadied herself. "Our interactions with the universe next door were brief, but we had enough exposure. So when a call for help came out, I responded." She held up her phone changer. "You've already seen what my technology can do, not just to this Earth, but to this entire universe. When our neighbors in the universe next door reported that theirs had been damaged and needed repair, I was sent for the technical know-how to do such a task. So I headed to the universe next door to do repairs."
She paused, her heart aching at the memory, still a fresh wound even all this time later. She offered her hand. "I'll show you what happened next."
The trio hesitated but then reached out to touch hands with her. Her memories flooded into their minds: the cold void of space as they emerged from a portal between dimensions to see a rickety old ship with its tethers boring into the Earth, pulling it from orbit. A pair of mechanical dinosaurs fired blasts into space, only for reality to tear open a massive black hole larger than the planet itself. In a horrifying instant, the ship and the planet it was tethered to were sucked through the vortex as if water through a straw. The dinosaurs vanished into a glowing portal of their own making, leaving only emptiness. The moon set adrift with no planet to orbit, and a gaping hole where a planet used to be.
The trio was silent. They felt that moment, different from seeing their own world shattered into a million pieces, but still a moment of seeing their home simply vanish, consumed by a black hole that left nothing behind, not even memories.
"I don't get it. Are you saying your enemy had the technology to tow a planet? That's insane," Raditz said.
"Is it, Raditz? We possess the power to destroy planets with ease. We've all done it."
"Yes, but destroying a planet is far easier than towing one across space like a toy."
Cross took a long breath. "I don't think his intention was to tow the planet intact. When our mentor first encountered him 65 million years ago, he was towing an asteroid belt to sell for scrap. Their initial confrontation disrupted his energy net, causing the asteroids he was carrying to fall to Earth, leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs. He had assumed for quite some time that the Earth would freeze and he could sell it for scraps. I don't think he cared if the planet was intact; he just wanted the resources, not the people."
The trio nodded. Under those circumstances, it didn't seem nearly as insane as the vision had shown.
"What's more, we had been fighting him and his forces for nearly two years before this happened. Every time, he would send down one of his agents at a rate of roughly one a week, so he possessed over 100 on his ship. He himself being a bounty hunter, collected them to sell to the highest bidder, each of them being a planet buster. Obviously, he had to be strong enough to defeat a planet buster on his own and have a ship capable of containing planet busters. When you put it all together, a ship capable of towing a planet in pieces intact isn't as far-fetched as you might think, especially considering the power you've seen of our technology by my hand."
Vegeta nodded, his memory still fresh of the scouter's laughable reading of 103 when he first met Cross, and then watching it skyrocket into the thousands when she powered up. Indeed, if that was just the power she alone possessed, then an enemy that gave her a run for her money would be orders of magnitude more powerful.
Cross broke the silence. "All I'm saying is I know what it's like to lose your home world and to stand there as its destroyer is mere meters from you, but you are unable to do anything to stop him. If you need someone to talk to, I am here and..."
She took another long breath, about to reveal another dark secret she kept close to her chest. "If you seek a means to reignite your species, I'm willing to make that sacrifice."
Nappa waved a dismissive hand. "A kind gesture, miss, but one female is not going to revive our planet, even if we found new soil to settle on."
Cross's chest was heavy as she took several slow breaths before speaking again. "Actually, I can. It is a..." She paused, trying to force the words out without bile dripping from them. "Gift." She failed spectacularly, the single word tinged with venom and disdain that was felt for miles, even if no one heard it, a slimy disgusting thing that got under the skin.
It took a few breaths for her to clear the air and reset her demeanor, the positivity in her voice still tinged with bits of disgust. "Granted to me by a former oppressor who saw me as little more than a broodmare, my DNA twisted to fulfill his dark ambition. He sought to revive an extinct race and saw me as the perfect tool to do it. So not only do I stand as the lone survivor of my entire world, but I cannot even bear children in my name. Any child I bear would possess the DNA of the father, taking that bloodline in order to revive without complexities. Limited parentage. Our children would grow, and their ancestry would trace back to you as their great-great-grandparents, but no evidence of me. A new bloodline,a species reborn thanks to you. My life will be forgotten to time, not even a strand of my DNA in their ancient blood lineage."
Those words were even harder for the trio. The chance to revive their people, but the means for that revival would ensure purity and her own obscurity.
Nappa spoke. While he did not bear the weight of the crown as Vegeta did, he was still the oldest and the one who raised the prince, so there was wisdom in the words of the old brute. "We appreciate the offer, Cross, and the heartfelt sincerity. Thank you." A small grin played across the face of the old brute. "We space orphans got to stick together, right?"
He laughed, Raditz laughed, Cross laughed, and while the prince was more stoic, he did crack a rare half-smile, showing his appreciation of the dragon girl.

Trunks waited, knowing that the spike in power from going Super Saiyan and the destruction of Frieza and his father would get him detected by the others. All he had to do was wait.
It didn't take long. Krillin, Tien, Chiaotzu, Yamcha, and Puar arrived first. Trunks introduced himself as a friend with a message from the future. He warned them of androids coming in three years that were unlike anything they had ever faced before—unbelievably strong and ultimately causing the end of his time and the death of all his friends and mentors, including Goku and Cross.
He also knew that Goku would arrive in about a year and a half, but this would be his downfall. In the reaches of space, Goku had contracted a heart virus that would take his life before he could really get into the thick of the fight. However, Trunks had a cure that they had developed, but it was not ready before Goku's untimely passing by natural causes, which meant he could not be revived by the Dragon Balls. With his warning given, as well as a container of medicine, Trunks departed back to the future, hoping that the past could be changed.
So began three years of training.
