Cross tried to move under the crushing gravity, but it was even hard just to breathe. Krillin and Piccolo were on their feet. They were slow, but they were on their feet. Yamcha and Gohan were at least standing. But Cross, Puar, and Chiaotzu were just pinned to the ground. Cross had already reduced to her human size of 5 foot 4, opting to keep her tail, ears, and horns but looking otherwise human.
Cross growled, "Gravity, it's always gravity."
Her mind wandered back to past adventures and past teams. "You know, this isn't the first time I've been hit by a gravity wave. At least three enemies I can recall had gravity powers, but our team only ever pushed through it when powered up in our suits."
Cross looked over to Yajirobe and Korin, who were moving just fine in the gravity. The cat made his way to Cross. "Belaboring the past isn't going to get you any stronger."
Cross growled and sighed. "I know, Master Korin. I'm just reflecting on how different our worlds are and our people."
Cross could feel the weight crushing down. She was going to shrink again if she didn't do something.
That's when she noticed Puar. "I have to get stronger for Yamcha."
"I need to avenge Tien," Chiaotzu declared next.
Cross planted her hands firmly on the floor and growled, feeling her body compress again. "One step at a time, right, Korin?"
The cat nodded. Cross let her body compress, directing the change. Her form was lost in her oversized clothes until a tiger cub emerged from one end, clearly struggling but standing, even if on four legs, not two.
"Lower... my center of gravity... and double my legs... but I am... standing," Cross purred.
Puar took the same advice, shape-shifting into a blue cat. While Chiaotzu let his limbs go limp and levitated his torso just an inch or so, he looked like a puppet hanging by its strings, but he was up.
"Alright, that's enough effort," Yajirobe yawned as he turned off the gravity machine. "Time to eat, right?"
Bulma's voice came over the PA. "Gravity room one turned off. Everyone okay?"
Korin moved to an intercom panel. "They're taking a break. Good progress though."
Cross didn't want to admit it, but she felt so much more comfortable in this four-legged form, and that scared her.
As they filed out Gohan approached Cross, "How did you manage to stand up in that form?"
"I had to lower my center of gravity and use my animal instincts. It's not easy, but it works."
"That's amazing! Do you think I could learn to do something like that?"
Cross shook her head, "Ill advised, I had to tap into my beast to stand, you're trying to control yours. You're not ready yet to draw its power."
"But some day?" Gohan asks hopefully
Cross nods.
