Cross led the group out of the train as they disembarked on the strange new world, still just a white tiger cub with pink stripes and twin horns, little less than 3 feet from nose to rear. Puar was her normal self, as were Chiaotzu, Yamcha, Bulma, Chi-Chi, and the rest. Only Cross bore the physical toll of gravity training this long after the latest session. The crew, however, were in high spirits, especially Goku, who was bouncing on his toes to explore an alien world.
"Scanners show no signs of intelligent life here, so we can just relax and have fun," Cross explained.
The party all nodded and started to meander off, enjoying the fresh air of a strange new world.
Cross herself was letting her wild side have a bit of fun as she dug in her paws and dashed off.
Bulma waved over to Puar and Chi-Chi. "A moment, you two, I could use a hand."
From the train, a fourth figure emerged, a human android in pink, white, and black. Faceless save for a pair of red lips. "You too, Navi."
The android bubbled like a teenager. "Of course, Miss Bulma. How can I help?"
Bulma paused for a moment. "It's been pretty clear that you, Cross, and Chiaotzu are having more trouble than the others in gravity training." She addressed Puar. "I don't blame you for anything, but it's clear we're going to need another gravity room, even if it's just a smaller conversion of a sleeping room, so that you three can train separately from the others without slowing everyone down. To do that, I need supplies, and that's why I need the four of us to find the materials to build a new room."
Puar sighed. "I'm sorry we're so much trouble, Bulma."
She shook her head defiantly. "Everyone has to start somewhere. You three are just starting at a different level than the others. There's nothing wrong with that, and I want to help you reach your maximum potential."
She smiled, looking over to Chi-Chi. "After all, the stronger everyone is, the safer Gohan is."
"Then we should be training as well," Chi-Chi insisted. "To keep my Gohan safe."
Bulma shook her head. "Someone still has to pilot the damn thing, and only Cross and I are qualified. But if you want to go and join the training, you are more than welcome to. I'm sure Goku would love to see you train more."
Bulma laughed, and Chi-Chi did too. "He would absolutely lose his mind if I started to train."
Bulma laughed more. "You know, I could rebuild your laser helmet."
Chi-Chi laughed from her belly. "Oh Kami, that thing. It was useful, but man, the look was not good on me."
Bulma laughed more. "It was like a discount Cross."
Chi-Chi was bawling in laughter. "You know, you're not wrong. You're not wrong at all. But Cross's suit has so much better class."
Bulma relaxed. "That's settled. I will build you your own suit like the old days but classier."
The laughter dying down, the quartet set off on their mission.
The beast was fully out in Cross. Despite her size, she found something she could hunt, and hunt she did. The small rodents were no match for her, and with each one she caught and devoured, she regained a bit more of her human mass. As the star began to set in the sky and she heard Bulma project a call into the air calling everyone back, she was back to her human scale. The strange words wormed into her brain as she drank from a nearby lake and waterfall. As her senses returned to her, she shivered as she stared down at her reflection. She had really lost herself to the beast this time. And worse yet, it felt comfortable, like an old blanket, warm and inviting. The part of her she kept locked up tight whispered in her mind as Bulma called everyone back for dinner.
"Dinner, r-right," she tried to focus. "I should bring something for the pride."
Shaking her head, she bolted off.
With the train, they had no need of a campfire for warmth, and with Capsule Corp's Hoi-Poi capsules, they had a large table set up for everyone to sit at when Cross came into view dragging the body of some alien beast. "Hope this is enough! I can find more."
Chi-Chi, who was used to Goku killing some massive beast and bringing it home to cook, was unfazed. "Don't worry about it, Cross," she motioned inside. "Wash up and we'll have it ready to eat by the time you're done."
She nodded, stepping into the train, growling as her mind fought the beast. 'That was foolish. I am not sliding back to those days.'
She shifted to human as she entered the showers, clearing her thoughts as she took several breaths. Her body shifted. When she joined the others, she was back in her calico-haired, cat-eared maid form, giving an apologetic bow. "I'm sorry for my...brutish behavior...it won't happen again."
The crew brushed it off. "Goku does it all the time, it's no big deal. It's not the first time I've had to prepare a fresh beast."
Something clicked in the back of Cross's mind as she took a place at the table. "Y-you really don't mind?"
Goku laughed, motioning to the bones of some massive beast he had recently brought back.
Cross purred. "Well, alright then, I'll make sure when we're off ship to gather something for us to share."
Goku, shoving a large shank in his mouth, said, "Eat up, you need your strength to go big."
She purred, nodding, and dug into the banquet laid out.
"If we run out, Cross and I will get more, so eat up everyone," Goku laughed.
Cross purred. The acceptance of her wild side hunting took a great weight off her chest and emboldened the beast within.
"You should go even bigger this time so you only shrink to normal size!" Goku laughed, patting Cross's back.
"Goku, think!" Chi-Chi admonished. "Do you think a 24-foot tiger would fit in the train cabins?"
Bulma laughed. "The gravity room has a vehicle bay door. If she enters from there, she'll be fine. Besides, shrinking is easy for her. If you want, Cross, I can power it up before we go to bed. Go as big as you can, and if you're still too big in the morning when we take off, you can shrink down as you rest. I was working on a smaller gravity room for Puar, Chiaotzu, and you, but given your abilities, you could just take the room during off hours and work on your endurance that way."
Cross smiled. "Bulma, I would greatly appreciate that."
Bulma smiled.
"But if I'm in the way when the others need to train, I have another idea so as to not waste mass," Cross pointed to the top of the gravity pod. "With the zone of habitability, I can just sleep outside the train."
"We'll add some padding so it's comfortable!" Gohan and Yamcha offered.
Cross purred.
