Sometimes Bulma hated not being able to join the others in a fight, but it really wasn't something she was keen on either. Still, she sat in Cross's cockpit, tinkering with parts of her subsystems, studying her transformed organs. She watched the main monitor and the impromptu tournament they had set up on the barren world. The aliens were a mix—some laughably weak, ones that Raditz could have defeated. In retrospect, she realized that even these were incredibly powerful compared to the enemies Goku faced as a child. Other fighters, however, were able to put up a decent fight and move up the rankings. The team had taken to the maid form, but ultimately, they had all chosen to throw the fight. The fight was useful in testing their limits and new strength, but ultimately it was Gohan and Goku who were going to be the stars. Having any of them reach the final rounds would be pointless. They already knew how they stacked up, so one by one, each of the fighters let an alien beat them so they could move on.
Gohan, of course, was set up for a one-on-one battle and was considered something separate from the proper tournament. The one-on-one fights were what the proper tournament was, and Bulma was able to use the entry fee charge to essentially fund the prize money at the end, while throwing in some of her duplicated organs as a physical prize.
No, the true challenge was going to be the two Saiyan boys. Anyone who made it to the semifinals was then invited to take on "the Beast," a.k.a. Gohan, in group combat. The winner mainly had bragging rights that they could beat the Beast, as it was more of an optional fight. They got good data, and Gohan got even more practice in gaining control of her emotions while in her transformed state. She was able to nearly fully control them at this point. There were moments when she could lose control, but for the most part, she could take the form at will and maintain her sanity.
Goku was going to be the real challenge, as his already astronomical power level meant that transforming into the Beast would make him untouchable by the other Z fighters. So, a second optional fight was presented to all combatants, including the Z fighters.
It was a disastrous mistake. Beast Goku created a massive crater where he laid low pretty much everyone who came before him. Only one fighter was able to stand in the crater with the roaring Beast, and Goku was showing no signs of holding back or gaining any control, so Cross intervened.
The mechanical dragon flew into the crevice, detaching from the train as she transformed into a standing fighter while the train did the same. At the controls of the train, they fought on, three titans exchanging blows that could shake cities.
What's more, in this drag-out knuckle fight, Goku, in all of her unimaginable power, was still winning the 2V1.
But even transformed like this, while Cross couldn't use her suit, she had other abilities she could bring to bear. Drawing on the power copied from a friend from ages past, Cross duplicated herself. Now the fight was three versus one, and even with the benefits of Cross's copy, they were still on the back foot. But Cross had more tricks up her scales: boosted strength, super speed, sonic screams, bio-armor. But it seemed no matter what tricks she pulled out, the raging Goku just could not be stopped. What's worse, it seemed that this out-of-control Beast was starting to tap into Goku's own abilities as she glowed red with the Kaio-Ken.
Cross and her clone picked up the assault, adding even more abilities, such as force fields, intangibility, element mimicry, and even the ability to teleport Goku against his will. But the giant cat, powered by the Kaio-Ken—a technique that destroys the body—was just unbelievably powerful. It soon became evident that it was not a matter of them beating Goku; it was a matter of Goku wearing herself out enough that she would collapse on her own. That's exactly what they did. They raged for an hour, adding a second clone to the match when the first one expired, and they just fought until finally, the Beast, clutching her chest, dropped to her knees and passed out, reverting back to cat-girl Goku. It was evident that without a lot more training, Goku would not be able to rely on this form. What's more, it was evident to Cross, Bulma, Chi-Chi, and the others that they would need to find a way to prevent this form from coming out accidentally. The next time there was a full moon, or if they were to face Saiyans who, like Vegeta, could create a fake moon, they had some pretty smart minds at their disposal. A solution was not impossible.
