There it was. All that time she had been searching through the house for a possible way out, and had she now by chance perhaps found the way out? Had she by chance kicked the doormat so far away that secrets came to light? Because there it was, exactly where the doormat had been lying just a few seconds ago. Behind a glass panel, there lay the only possibility for a way out.

She was dreaming. This couldn't be real, could it? For hours she had been searching for clues, hints, material to find her way out of this house. Exactly 1 minute and 17 seconds ago she had opened a letter, which said that she would never find a way out. And now this?

An emergency telephone. Behind a glass panel there lay an emergency telephone. She couldn't really see what kind of phone, but it looked like a Nokia, probably one that had been there for a few years. But with a clear note, stuck on it with the letters still clear, only the paper a little yellowed.

But still, her joy was also flooded with fear, knowing that every high point could quickly turn into a low point

But still, her joy was also flooded with fear, knowing that every high point could quickly turn into a low point. She recognized the handwriting exactly, she knew exactly who had written this. Exactly the same handwriting as that of one of those men. Exactly the same handwriting as that on the notes.

A hundred thousand questions raced through her mind. Was this phone real? Was it charged? Did it still work? Was it a toy phone? Was it a listening device? Would possible conversations be recorded and could everything be heard? Would there be consequences to using this phone, which she knew nothing about yet?

But she had to, knowing that there would be no other way out. If it was false, she would deal with the consequences later, hoping that Viv would not be the one to suffer the consequences of the call, she had to take so much already.

She bent down very carefully, the clip between her trembling thumb and index finger. A quick prayer that no one would be watching, that someone wouldn't storm in angrily. Then the lock clicked open and she opened her eyes, the silence making way for a sigh of relief that left Beth's mouth. Her fingers slowly got a grip on the phone.

Immediately a huge sneeze rolled over her, the dust from the phone flying into her nose. Was this really the thing that would help her out of this? Could she reach someone from the outside world with this? Would she be freed from this nightmare in a few hours and could she finally start looking for Viv?

She moved to the bedroom and got under the covers, adapting to the circumstances. She didn't want to be listened to or seen. Knowing that pictures were being taken of her, that she was being watched, lying under the covers seemed the only "safe" option.

Once again she closed her eyes and said a quick prayer, her thumb slowly finding its place on the power button. But she couldn't press it yet, not before she had prepared herself for the next heartbreak that was possibly coming.
