Lucy's POV
I had left the party earlier than my siblings. I had a big test tomorrow that I needed to study for.
About an hour into my studying I heard a knock on the door. I hadn't a clue who was at my door at almost midnight—yes I know I shouldn't be staying up that late studying, I get it—so like any sane person, I answered the door.
I was utterly shocked to see my oldest brother standing in my doorway with my other brother's very distraught wife leaning on his shoulder.
"Peter! Jackie! What's going on? Is everything alright? Where's Edmund?" I asked him frantically. I noticed a bit of a bruise forming on his cheek. "You didn't get into another fight, did you? I thought you were over this."
"No, Lulu," Jackie said shakily, holding one hand out to stop me from scolding him further. She had the other wrapped around his arm as if it was her anchor in a fierce storm. "He did it for me," she explained.
I suddenly remembered we were all just standing in my doorway. I ushered them in and helped Jackie sit down next to me on my bed. "What happened?" I asked. My question was directed more towards Peter because Jacqueline didn't appear up to talking much.
"Edmund did something stupid, involving Bernadette and Jack saw. Then when she left Ed's mate Keegan followed her. He was about ready to assault her when we stepped in. You and Susan can scold me as much as you like, but I'd do it again in a heartbeat if any one of you girls were in trouble." My eyes widened at his words. I looked at Jacqueline to confirm his story. She looked up at me sadly, nodding her head.
"I-I couldn't be in there anymore after what I saw Edmund do. A-and Kee, he followed me out. H-he st-started flirting with me and badmouthing Ed. I told him I w-wanted to be alone, b-but he didn't listen. He started getting closer and closer and I-," she cut herself off with a sob.
"Hey, shh it's okay, take your time," I told her. She collected herself a bit then continued.
"I d-didn't know what to do. I was backed into a wall and couldn't get away, but he kept coming closer. I-I told him to stop but he wouldn't listen. I don't know what he was going to do to me, but I could see in his eyes it would be awful." Her nervous stuttering had eased up a little bit and she was speaking more softly now. "He looked at me like I was a present for him to unwrap on Christmas. That darkness in his eyes brought me back to my aunt's camp and the things she did to me. I'm just glad Peter interfered when he did."
"Susan's dropping Ed off in my room right now. Can Jack stay with you guys for the night? Su's already agreed but I want to double check with you too. I don't want her going back to her dorm with those girls after what happened."
"Of course Peter, do you even have to ask?" I replied.
Jacqueline looked awful, she had been sick all day and now she just looked exhausted. I brought over a washcloth and cleaned her face. Peter and I helped get her ready for bed. We saw her coming back to being more herself when she fought us for helping her.
