I make excuses, my friends know the truth is
I'm not as alright as I claim
I say that I'm fine, I tell them all the time
As they watch all the light fade away

August 2014

Amerie had turned six a few weeks ago, her birthday present was her first ever guitar. Amerie loved the guitar, she would listen to her Mom play it for her every night before bed. Now she could finally have her own guitar to learn how to play.

Sure Taylor had tried teach her when Amerie was younger, but it was rather hard for the young girl to understand. Taylor felt like 6 was the perfect age for Amerie to start lessons from her.

Taylor sat next to Amerie in the music room, she finally had some free time to sit down and teach Amerie all about the guitar.

"I think I'm going to teach you one of my songs, it's from my first ever album. This song is called Teardrops on my guitar, I'll show you where you need to put your fingers and how to strum the guitar" Taylor said demonstrating the song on her own guitar.

Amerie immediately followed along carefully copying her Mom, she had watched her Mom play guitar many times she had all the notes memorised and songs her Mom used to play her.

"You're a natural at this!" Taylor praised.

The ability to watch and mimic was another reason leading to Amerie's future diagnosis in autism.

                             Present

Sundays were always boring, but Amerie needed to finish homework. This new school had tons of homework, she'd managed to get through most of it, it was just her homework her music teacher set, which was to write a song about your biggest inspiration.

Amerie choosing to write on a song on her Mom, but why was this so complicated, thinking of lyrics to describe her Mom. She thought about changing it to be about Gracie or Chloe Hayden, but her Mom was her biggest inspiration she was there for her since day one always fighting for her and supporting her.

The knock on her bedroom door is what startled Amerie from her song writing.

"Come in" Amerie called out

"Hey, your Mom is cooking dinner it should be done in about five mins" Travis said walking in noticing Amerie seeming rather distressed with her guitar and notebook next to her on her bed. "Are you writing a song?" Travis asked.

"Yeah, my music teacher set homework, we have to write a song about our biggest inspiration, I'm choosing Mom, but it's hard to think of the right lyrics, words to describe her" Amerie sighed

"Well, I'm no use with song writing or words, but I know a person who is an expert at song writing especially about other people, she's just down stairs in the kitchen cooking dinner, she's a lovely woman sure she would love to help" Travis chuckled trying to lighten the room

"Thank you, that really helped" Amerie smiled and laughed at Travis' humour.

"Glad I could help kid, why don't we head down and see what your Mom is making" Travis suggested

"Yeah, I should probably have a break from my guitar" Amerie agreed.

Walking into the kitchen they were met with the smell of spaghetti Bolognese with freshly made garlic bread.

"Taylor this smells delicious" Travis said placing a kiss on Taylor's cheek.

"Thank you, Amerie come taste this. I've made the sauce myself, it's a completely smooth sauce so the texture shouldn't be too much, but try it before I serve it" Taylor said handing a small spoonful of sauce

"Mmm that's so good, I'll have it on my pasta please" Amerie smiled enjoying the sauce

"I'm glad you like it" Taylor said starting to serve the food

"I have something to ask you" Amerie said shyly

"Go ahead sweetie" Taylor said serving up the bowls of pasta and sauce

"My music teacher set some homework, I have to write a song on my biggest inspiration but I'm struggling with the lyrics" Amerie said.

"Why don't you start with something like, In the stillness of night, where dreams take flight' it's simple but a good starting point" Taylor suggested

"Thank you, Mom" Amerie smiled, beginning to eat her dinner.

In the stillness of the night, where dreams take flight,
Her arms envelop me in a mother's embrace.
Her face, a beacon in the darkness,
Guiding me to create my own path.

In the calm of the night, where dreams take flight.
Her words, a guiding light in the shadows,
Leading me along the road of success.

Those sympathetic words fill my mind, my sorrows all dry.
In her presence, I discover a mirror,
A wellspring of endless inspiration.
Mother a source of strength and honesty
Her impact on me is profound and genuine,
In her footsteps, my creativity blossoms.

In her arms, I discover a comforting presence.
Her influence on me is profound and heartfelt,
In her guidance, my life flourishes like a tree under mother natures loving gaze.

Those sympathetic words fill my mind, my sorrows all dry.
In her presence, I discover a mirror,
A wellspring of endless inspiration.
Mother a source of strength and
Her impact on me is profound and genuine,
In her footsteps, my creativity blossoms

In the stillness of the night, where dreams take flight,
Her arms envelop me in a mother's embrace.
Her face, a beacon in the darkness,
Guiding me to create my own path.

Those were the lyrics scribbled down on her notebook along side the music for her guitar, closing her notebook and placing her guitar back, Amerie continued to her book her glasses pushed onto her face.
