'how could a heart like yours ever love a heart like mine?'

nessa came to school at the same time she normally would and started walking towards her classroom. for the first time ever, she was grateful it was monday because that was the only day she had classes with lynn, or maybe she should say class because she only had english with her.

she wasn't the luckiest when it came to having her friends in her classes. she had a total of 1 with eva and 2 with carla. sure augustine and mia were in some of them, but after everything that had happened and she heard everything they said about her she distanced herself from them and honestly, life was so much easier when she didn't have them laughing and whispering about every little thing she did.

first period she had science, second was math and then finally the one w waited for all day, english.

she never really hated the class, major part of the reason being the most of the lesson consisting of the teacher yapping about the same things over and over, sometimes making them take some notes, so she could really just do whatever she wanted to. but not today. their teacher was out sick and she could see her science teacher in the front of the classroom sorting out some papers. she often questioned why she still teached because she didn't seem to like the students, the other teachers or the subject science.

lynn lay half asleep on her desk and nessa slumped down on the one a few feet away from hers. lynn knew who it was, because there wasn't a lot of people who chose the seat next to her voluntary.

she didn't look up, but nessa just smiled at the sight. she started getting concerned when she didnt pull her head up once in 45 minutes. she couldn't really blame her because listening to the teacher talk was like watching paint dry. boring.

she tore a piece of paper out of her notebook and curled it into a small ball throwing it at lynn. her head snapped up quickly as she blinked fast a few times, getting used to the lightning. "you ok?" nessa mouthed. lynn just nodded, avoiding her eyes.

nessa tried ignoring it, telling herself she probaby just had slept little or something, but the feeling was oddly familiar. all the smiles she sent were returned, but nessa saw how halfhearted they all looked and how lynn wouldn't even meet her eyes.

at soccer practise they divided into 2 teams and played against each other. lynn scored a few goals, but didn't really keep count. they were supposed to get a 10 minute break, but the coach pulled her aside.

"i can tell youve practised at home, you've really improved the last few weeks" she complimented. for the first time that day a genuine smile formed on lynn's lips. small but still a smile.

everyone she had been around the past month, especially her family had thought she was crazy because of how much time she spent practising. a few of her other coaches had told her shed gotten better aswell, and as long as they noticed and all the hours spent in her backyard showed, it was worth it.
