vanessa found herself spending less time with her usual friendgroup and more time with lynn. they texted every night before bed, hung out during breaks and vanessa often came to watch her at practise.

the previous night she could barley sleep, knowing she had plans with lynn the next day. her mind kept flashing back to a few nights before.

"i had fun today, we should do it again sometime" vanessa said to lynn, expecting it to end up happening once in 4 months like it usually did with her other friends.

"how about friday" lynn looked over to the other girl sitting on the railing.

nessa immediately wanted to say yes, but pulled herself together. "that sounds great" she replied already feeling herself looking forward to friday.

suddenly she heard evas voice in the back of her head.

"when you know, you know" it repeated a few times. and that was the moment she knew.

vanessa was impatiently tapping her fingers on the wooden table waiting for the last bell to ring, her eyes burning holes in the clock on the wall. even tho she payed more attention to to the time than the actual lesson she still jumped at the sound of the bell.

her eyes scanned the hall before a familiar voice was heard behind her. "looking for your girlfriend?" she turned around to see augustine standing with her arms crossed.

"skrew you" vanessa rolled her eyes at the girls new personality. "you know, ditching us to hang out with her and her little athlete friends does not look good" she laughed clearly feeling proud of herself for being able to be a mean girl without her leader.

"thats funny coming from the person that ditched her old friends to go hang out with the popular girls to get boy attention" vanessa snapped back.

augustine looked a little shocked, not expecting her to actually talk back. "well at least i get boy attention. oh wait, that wouldnt matter to you anyway because your not even into guys" she kept talking in the most annoying tone vanessa had ever heard. if it didnt have consequences vanessa would hit her in the face to knock that attitude and confidence out of her.

"vanessa, there you are!" lynn pushed through the crowd noticing augustine smirking at the two, her eyes moving between them.

lynn raised an eyebrow not knowing what to say to break the silence. "we should probably get going" vanessa started walking towards the exit, with lynn following close behind.

lynn avoided asking the question of what was going on to prevent nessa from getting mad. it was silent a for a minute or two before she spoke up. "i heard theres a new ice cream place down in the park" vanessa looked up from the ground and over to the girl beside her. "im down" she shrugged her shoulders.

after a while vanessas mood lightened. "so whyd you quit volleyball?" lynn asked as she took a bite of her ice cream. "i told you, i sucked" nessa laughed thinking about how embarrassing it was when she would miss the ball everytime she served.

"you should join basket or soccer" lynn said jokingly, but deep down hoping shed say yes. she wouldnt mind getting a teammate that actually seemed to like spending time with her. many of the players on her team thought she took it way to serious and that lynn often overreacted when they lost. the two people that didnt seem to mind lynns competitiveness were margo and inez. but what was the point of spending time practising so you could compete if it didnt matter if you won or lost?
