vanessa was sure shed never had smiled the way she did that day. even after lynn left she was still smiling like an idiot. but she couldnt help it.

because she could call lynn her girlfriend.

flashback

both girls sat simply just enjoying each others company. lynns arm was resting over nessas shoulders who was trying to remember every single detail about the moment. 

she listened to the sound of lynns steady heartbeat before she felt it quicken, making her turn to face her. "what on your mind?" she questioned, tilting her head slightly. "could we maybe keep this a secret? or not a secret, but like not tell everybody?" lynn rambled silently, scared to make her think the wrong thing. "whatever you comfortable with" nessa smiled assuringly.

lynn nodded along. "its not that im embarrassed to be with you or anything. i just dont know if im ready to.. you know.. come out yet" as her sentence went on, the words came out slower. "you dont need to explain, lynn. as long as i get to be with you. just take your time, ill wait for you" nessa grabbed her hand, playing with her fingers. 

"you remember what i told you about ben?" lynn asked after a minute of silence, looking down at their hands. "i try not to think about him and youve said quite a lot about him, so no" she laughed in reply. "about using him as a distraction" she reminded. nessa stopped fidgeting with their hands to give lynn her full attention waiting for her to go on.

"you were what needed to be distracted from" her eyes switched between nessas. "am im really that charming?" she joked. "lets just say that"

her eyes widened. "nooo, tell me. i want to know" she shook her hand. "i was afraid to admit i liked girls i guess" lynn shrugged her shoulders. "why? your sister does as well, you knew youd have your family" a frown formed on nessas face. "yeah. i just.." she couldnt even explain it herself, but nessa seemed to find another topic to talk about. 

"out of all people, you chose ben?" she laughed. "i was in a bad place" lynn defended.

they sat for another two hours talking, before it started getting chilly and they got up and walked around. lynn being the gentlewoman she is of course walked nessa home. 

they stopped on the porch and nessa reached for the hand she wasnt already holding and turned to face lynn. she had to tilt her head up to see her face properly because of the height difference.

"you look so pretty" nessa blurted. she felt that was an understatement. she was a mansion with a view and nessa never wanted to look away. just the thought that she no longer had to pretend that lynn was hers when they locked eyes made her feel like the happier than shed ever been.

"says you" lynn scanned her for probably the 50th time that day, but somehow she seemed to be even more beautiful now than she was last time. she reicived a push in the shoulder and an eyeroll from the girl in front of her. 

a phone ringing broke their staring contest and lynn reached into her pocket. 'luna' read the contact name on the screen, but she didnt bother answering it. "i think they want me back home" she said as she shoved the phone back. 

"i love you" nessa regretted saying it imidiately after, scared it was too soon. lynns smile only grew if that was even possible. "i love you too" and yet again a comfortable silence fell over them.
