vanessa opened her bedroom window, letting the morning air in. she could finally feel it getting warmer, even tho it was 7 in the morning. still she chose to wear jeans and a thin sweater with some jewelry. she couldnt help but feel a little disappointed, seeing there was no text from lynn on her phone, but she probably had better things to do than message nessa all day.
she always thought her life sounded very boring compared to lynns. lynn got up early in the morning to run several days a week, had practise almost every day, plus she had 10 siblings so there was always something too do. whilst nessa only sat at home alone, waiting for someone to text her and make her feel like she actually was a choice to her friends, something she strongly doubted.
the sound of lynns alarm filled her ears, making them bleed and drag her duvet over her head. it finally stopped after a minute or so and she turned to face the wall again, only wanting to stay in the comfort of her own bed the whole day. sleep captured her again before being interrupted by someone bursting in the door. lynn was never really a heavy sleeper so it didnt take much to wake her, something she found very annoying thinking about how long she spent actually falling asleep.
"rise and grind lil sis" luan spoke a bit too enthusiastically for it to only be 7 in the morning. "go away" lynn complained annoyed. "im afraid i cant do that. youve got about 20 minutes until we leave" at that lynns eyes shot open. with 10 siblings and parents who cant function until all the kids have left the house and theyve got their morning coffee, it was never good having less than 40 minutes before having to be out the door.
to say the hall was crowded was an understatement, it was a warzone. just like one pushing another down the stairs, there was nothing abnormal about getting a shoe slammed in the face whilst waiting in line to use the bathroom. there was also no guarantee thered be any toothpaste left by the time it was unoccupied.
lynn put on a pair of basketball shorts and pulled a hoodie over her head. unlike most of her others, this one was grey and not red. she groaned as she opened the door out to the hall, seeing lucy, leni and lisa still waiting in line. the second she saw leni, she knew there was no chance shed be at school on time.
to her surprise she only arrived about 10 minutes late, which wasnt so bad considering all the chaos shed witnessed less than an hour ago. the teacher wasnt very happy about her late arrival, but to be honest, lynn didnt really care.
her feet felt heavy in a way she couldnt really describe. her legs burnt at every step she took, and she really just wanted to go home, but unfourtunately for her, she had 7 hours of school first, then one and a half hour of practise, then she could go home. and of course shed be doing all this running on 4 hours of sleep.
in the hall after third period she was met with a pair of familiar eyes that light up as soon as they met her own. nessa pushed through the crowd of teenagers between them to get to lynn.
"hey" nessa smiled brightly, but lynn couldnt help and feel a sting thinking about what ben had said yesterday. "whats up?" she returned the smile, still very happy to see her. "well i havent really talked to you this week" nessa smiled like she always did when she was talking to lynn. "so you miss me, i see" she joked, making nessas cheeks flush a light shade of pink. she had a love hate relationship with the way the butterflies were doing flips in her stomach whenever lynn would tease her. it felt like she knew exactly what she was doing, but in reality lynn wasnt aware that her playful tone made nessa feel that way.
"are you free this weekend?" nessa met the athletes eyes again. she stopped to think for a second before answering. "i belive so, why?" lynn looked around herself to make sure ben or any of his friends werent anywhere so they could see them together. "i was wondering if you wanted to go swimming or something" her heart warmed up, seeing how exited she seemed about it. "you know i want to" she returned a smile.
"so what class have you got now?" nessa questioned. "uh chemistry i think. you?" the girl with the ponytail replied. "pe. walk together?" lynn just nodded, her eyes automatically scanning her face when she looked over at her.
it physically hurt, having to pretend like she doesnt mind just being friends with her. at the same time, she wanted nothing to do with her anymore and never talk to her again. she hated how nessa made her feel. she just wanted to be normal. she was doing so much better before that stupid english project before she knew who vanessa pratt was.
maybe if this was nothing more than a nightmare, she could even love vanessa in a dream. but first she had to wake up, something that wasnt going to happen.
eva stood by the locker room waiting for her friend. her brows furrowed in confusion seeing who she was walking with. lynn gave the fake blonde a small smile before whispering a small bye to nessa, continuing further down the hall towards the chemistry classroom.
"are you still talking to lynn?" nessa couldnt read the expression on her best friends face. "yeah" her voice was low and confused. eva furrowed her brows, not understanding. "nessa, she completely ghosted you without a reason. she broke your heart" nessa saw the concerned look on her face before it hit her she never even got to know the reason. the pain she felt when she saw ben kiss her with his arms around her waist hit her like a ton of bricks. she chose ben, not her. lynn was straight.
nessa didnt notice she never replied, but eva did. she grabbed her hand sending her a smile. "you deserve to be loved by someone who loves you back the same way, and that isnt lynn. if she wanted to, she would" nessa just nodded in reply because she knew eva was right, but her words still felt like a knife twisting in her stomach. silence surrounded them before the blonde spoke up. "come on, lets go" she nodded towards the locker room door, gesturing for them to go inside. no words managed to come out of nessas mouth in reply, so she just followed.
lynn stared at the whiteboard in the front of the classroom, not being able to focus on anything the teacher said. her mind kept drifting off to something very different from chemistry. vanessa. the feeling of not being able to stop it from doing so made her crazy. if this was the so called amazing feeling of having a crush, she never wanted to feel it again.
maybe one day, shed actually be able to tell nessa the truth after what has felt like a lifetime of lies, that shed been saving a space in her heart for her ever since they met. but it wasnt right, she couldnt be with her.
