Tink:
Magical Time Jump to Five Years Later!!!!
"I saw daddy again last night," Samantha informs me while eating her cereal. "Yeah? What did he say?" I ask, handing Delilah a spoon. "Same as always. He misses us and wishes he was home but the United States of America's Navy needs him and that he should be home in about a month," Samantha says as Nathan joins her at the table. "Are we talking about daddy?" Nathan asks. "Yeah, he visited you too right Rocket Boy?" Samantha asks, clumsy spooning another mouthful of Cheerios into her mouth. "Of course Captain Derpwad," Nathan responds, sitting beside her. My six year olds hang out with their grandfather much too often, their vocabulary is gigantic.
"He visits all of us, does he ever visit you mom?" Delilah asks. She's ten now and has recently stopped calling me mommy. "Not as often. He knows I prefer waking up to your smiling faces because Daddy was in your dreams," I shrug, taking all the dishes and dropping them in the sink. "Are you babysitting for Aunt Rose today?" Samantha asks. "No, but we are going over for Uncle Jace's birthday later," I tell her, helping Nathan into his jacket. "Woo Hoo, guy time!" He cheers, putting on his back pack.
"Where's my grandkids?" Dad yells from downstairs. "We're coming!" Delilah yells back. They all hug me and then they leave to meet my dad downstairs for a ride to school. "Gotta buy a birthday card, a new knife set cause I broke his last one two years ago. I also need to stop by and pick up his motorcycle from the detailer's while he's training Delilah," I say aloud, writing everything down. "Hey Tink," Jean says, coming into the flat. "Hey Mom whatchya up to?" I ask as she means on the counter next to me. "Just wanted to see what one of my favorite girls are up to,"she says, peering at my list.
"Mom I'm fine. I promise. Peter is going to be home next month. I'll see him for the first time in three years but he's been dreaming with the kids for a while now. He's okay. We can meet for lunch though if you want to go all therapist on me," I suggest, shoving on my winter boots with my skinny jeans and long sleeved shirt. Mom laughs and my therapist thing but smiles, "I just wanted to be sure. Lunch would be nice. We can see Wicked. I'm surprised that we have lived in New York for most of our lives and never ever seen it," she says, handing me my black trench coat and white knit beanie.
"Okay. I'll see you at one thirty," I agree, hugging her. "I need to go meet your dad in the car before he starts honking. I'll see you later dear," she sighs. I hug her again on her way out and then actually put on my beanie, tucking my list into my trench pocket and preparing for the cold. Oh how I hate the cold and the snow. I also need to get started on the Christmas shopping too. I've only got two weeks after all and the tree isn't even up. I write that down on the to do list so that when the kids get home we can decorate. "Well Peter you make this hard to do alone but it'll be worth it when you come home for good," I say, sliding into the front seat of my car.
First stop Wal-Mart aka death in high heels during the Christmas season. I pick up an nice looking knife set and ironically the box says 'Perfect for the hunter in every family!'. I put that in the cart, swing by the nogg, pick up a birthday card and I also grab a nice little gift bag for Jace. "Wow, you are really rocking the mom hood," Some guys says, coming up beside me and looking at get well soon cards. "Excuse me?" I ask turning to face him. "Oh, hey Alec. Thanks," I say. "Izzy sick?" I ask. "Yeah. She is sick of this weather. It's just kind of a joke cause she's been a real downer lately," he explains. I nod. "Well nice seeing you. I'll see you at the Wayland house later right?" I ask. "Yeah. See you then," Alec nods. Yes, my grandmother's cottage came to house three Waylands. Mommy Wayland, Daddy Wayland and Baby Wayland.
"Hey, change of plans. Can you meet me at the airport asap? I am picking up an old friend and Logan can't come pick me up," Jean sends in a text message. "Yeah Mom, I'll be there asap," I respond, tucking my phone back into my jacket before heading to self check out. I get in the car and drive down the airport, calling the detailer on the way, saying I may be a bit late. "What gate mom? I'm coming inside," I text her. "I thought you'd say that. Gate fifteen," she responds with a smiley emoticon. I make my way through security and down to Gate fifteen, meeting my whole family there. "What's happening?" I ask after hugging Rose awkwardly around baby Wayland. "Oh I got an early flight and told the kids not to tell you," Peter says, his voice almost unrecognizable. After all, the first thing you lose from memories is the voice.
"Oh my god!" I scream, turning around and hugging him tightly. I start crying when he hugs me even tighter. "Oh my god I love you," he breathes into my beanie. I hear laughter mixed with applause erupt around us. "Take your hat off solider you're in a building," I laugh, taking his hat off his head. He smiles at me and I mess up his shorter but still long hair. "So are you gonna kiss him or not? Cause if you aren't going to honey, I will. You've got one handsome son of a gun there," an old lady says from the seats over next to us. "She's got a fabulous point," I laugh. I kiss him deeply, winding my arms around his neck and standing on my tip toes. "You have no idea how bad I have missed that," Peter whines, kissing me again.
I back up and let the kids wrestle him to the ground, hugging him and holding him tight. "Peter who's that?" I ask when I notice a man in the same uniform as my husband standing alone bickering on the phone. "Whaddya mean all of your cabs are full?" He says. "Trevor, come here man," Peter says, standing up with Nathan and Samantha in his arms. "Where's your family brother?" Peter asks. "Dead or busy not caring," Trevor laughs. His hair is the same length as Peter's and for clarification just a little shorter than Zayn Malik's. "Dude come home with me for the holidays, I've got an extra bed and enough family to go around. What's mine is yours," Peter says, gesturing around to all of us. "Welcome to the family Trevor," I say, giving him a hug. "Except for that. That is in no way yours, you got me?" Peter asks Trevor. "I love it when guys objectify women," I laugh. "Yeah buddy, not cool," Trevor says.
"My name is Tink. That's Samantha, Nathan, Delilah, you'll be rooming with them at our house," I say pointing out our family. "That's my dad, and his wife. Logan and Jean," I say. Then I introduce the Waylands. "Just an fyi Mr. Wheatley, you can call Sam Captain Derpwad. That what I do. She calls me Rocket Boy. It's a long story," Nathan says. "Why don't I leave the name calling to the professionals?" He asks, ruffling Nathan's hair. "I'm sorry, what was your name? I think I may have forgotten," Trevor says, squatting to talk to Delilah who has taken to hiding behind her father. "My name's Delilah," she says, giggling. Trevor flicks his pale blonde hair out of his eyes, which are stormy gray band then snatches up Delilah and throws her over his shoulder.
"To the mystery car we go," He says, striking a pose. She laughs so hard I am afraid that he might drop her just because he is distracted. "Alright wise guy put the kid down," I say. He lets go of her feet when. Her hands are on the ground and she breaks into something string of gymnastics across the gate. She ends in the splits with jazz hands. "Ta-da," she says, flashing a killer smile. "Wooh, that's my girl!" Jace cheers when she stands up. "That was impressive but I'd like to see you lift that back with out struggling," Trevor challenges. "No prob," she says, lifting it easily. "Turn off the magic and do it again," he says, taking her necklace from her. "Dang it," she sighs, picking it back up is a challenge that she just can't complete.
"We'll see you at the party. Since the kids are now staying home, we've got stuff to do," I say dismissing us from the Waylands and my parents. We get into the car and Trevor sits between the six year olds. "You have a very nice car Mrs. Pan," Trevor says, looking around. "Thank you Trevor," I respond. We get home and Peter shows Trevor to his room, the one that he magically made happen. He must've explained everything to Trevor while they were over seas. "We need to get the tree up," I yell, knowing it'll get attention. "Let me change out of work clothes and then we'll be in there," Peter says. The kids take off their boots and jackets by the door.
"Alright, ornaments there, tree there, nogg on the table and my beautiful family. Wonderful," Peter says, pointing to where the tree and ornaments need to go, two separate things. I bring in he nogg I just bought and put glasses on the table. Delilah starts opening boxes of ornaments and Samantha and Nathan manage to wrangle up the radio and Christmas cds. Trevor comes in and picks up a glass. "Okay, Daddy first. Here's the star," Delilah says, handing Peter the tree topper. "Trevor would you like to do it?" Peter asks, offering the star to him. "No way, this is your time to be a dad," He says.
He goes around the back of the tree to put it up as Nathan starts 'We wish you a merry Christmas' on the stereo. "Thanks bud," Peter says, standing on his tip toes, reaching the top. I look away, aware of the blushing. "Dad I think you need a longer shirt. Mom's swooning," Delilah laughs. I wack her with a pillow but laugh at her. We take turns, Trevor included until the tree is full and we are out of ornaments. Then we get ready for Jace's party and I'll let Rose tell that part.
