Rose:

Christmas lights lined the street, and snow was gently falling. “Wow.” Matthew cooed and I picked him up sitting him in my lap so he could get a better view, “Aren’t they pretty?” “Mhm.” he said, nodding his head. Jace laughed, “I think the kids are enjoying this just as much as the adults.” Tink was looking around in aw, the lights lighting up her blue eyes, Peter was looking at a different thing. He was looking a Tink with a look that told me he was still just as much in love with her when we were still in the Academy. It warmed my heart.

“Christmas tree!” Trevor exclaimed, and everyone turned to look at his side of the carriage. A Christmas tree taller than the Thorn sat in the middle of the park but from where we were passing we caught a glimpse of the snow covered leaves and ornaments the size of Matthew’s head!

“Wow.” I muttered, mocking Matthew’s tone and he giggled. Normally I hate that word but I could make an exception for him.

Finally when we were dropped off I looked at Jace, “Where are we headed now?” “Not sure, where do you want to go?” I replied and he shrugged, “Want to get a board game for everyone on Christmas?” “Sounds good to me.” I replied, and we went to target to go find a game in specific.

Apples to Apples was the game, basically a kid friendly game of Cards Against Humanity. We got back home that night and Jace and I stayed up until midnight playing it.

“Dude, there’s a card for Viagra.” he said and I laughed, “No fucking way.” he threw down the card and I covered my mouth, “And they consider this a kid friendly game!” “I also got black lingerie, Victoria’s Secret, and Fertilizer.” “What’s so bad about the last one?” I asked, raising an eyebrow he held up the card and read out loud. “It says, and I quote, Viagra for the soil.” “Holy hell!” I exclaimed, somehow everything is funnier at midnight.

Finally he  shook his head, “You should go to bed, I feel like if I shot you with loopy gas it would be better than this.” “I’m totally fine.” I replied, holding back a yawn and he rolled his eyes, “You barely say ‘totally’. Bed, Rose.” “Fine.” I grumbled, standing up. “But you have to clean up.” “Goodnight Rose.” he said laughing and I headed to bed.

At around three in the morning I woke up to Matthew crying and I groaned, “I’ll get it.” Jace turned over, “M’kay.”

Inside his room I walked over to his small bed that we’d recently moved him to, out of his crib. “What is it Matthew?” I asked, pulling him onto my lap. “Dark…” he muttered, wiping his eyes. “Well I’m here, do you want me to hold you until you fall back asleep?” “Yes.” he muttered and I nodded, gently rocking him in my arms. I started to sing the song Penelope would sing for me every once and a while when I couldn’t sleep. He quickly dozed off and I set him down, pulling the covers over him again and heading back into my room.

I climbed back into bed, tossing and turning for thirty minutes before Jace put an arm around me, “”Here.” he said and I smiled against his chest, “Thanks.” “I knew you’d be a great mother.” me murmured sleepily, and I laughed, “I have no idea what I’m doing half the time.” “Still, you’re a natural.” he muttered before falling asleep again and I sighed before falling asleep too.
