Rose:
Three words: Below the belt.

That was seriously uncalled for, I'm sorry that I can't be there because I'm not a Shadowhunter. I'm sorry I help pay the bills. I'm sorry I don't know how to use this goddamn magic.

The worst comment was me being just like Wendy.

"Is that really what you think?" I asked Jace, keeping my tone even. He looked at the ground, "I was trying to break it to you in a nicer way." "Well whoop de do, that's out the window." I replied, forcing myself not to cry. If Tink thinks I wallow in self pity I should have more pride than to cry afterwards.

"Rose I-" "Jace, go to bed. If that's really what you wanted to tell me I heard you. Just go." I told him walking to the kitchen and cleaning up.

Matthew came out of his room. "Moma, who was yelling?" "Nobody," I lied and I walked over to him kneeling down, "Go back to bed sweetie." "Do you have to go to work tomorrow?" he asked in a small voice and I picked him up, "Sorry kido, I do." "Why?" he asked, looking sad, and I nearly broke there.

Instead, I walked him to his room and set him down in his bed before looking at him. "My work...I need it, I need to help pay for this house, the food. Your toys." I told him poking him in the side making him laugh and I sighed. "That and it's a dangerous world out there, my teaching them to fight and defend themselves may help them in a serious situation."

Even now it felt like a lame excuse.

"It does?" he asked, sitting up, and I shrugged, "Depends on the situation but if it comes to monsters, yes." he nodded and yawned. "Okay, I guess that's okay." and he fell asleep.

After I knew he was asleep I walked outside and sat by the tree, looking up at the blazing stars.

"Dad?" I asked, trying to reach out to Hermes for the first time in years. "If you have any godly words of advice that would be awesome." I muttered, and I lied down, falling asleep to the stars dancing above me.

"Hello Rose." a voice said and I looked around, I was dreaming obviously and I saw my father, Hermes, Messenger of the Gods. "Hey." I replied, trying to hold myself together.

"Seems things are heating up in the kitchen." he muttered and I nodded. "That it did." "Listen, you have to keep your head up. You've felt like this for long enough. You have a family, you have a good life as of right now. Matthew will be fine, trust me on this. You have to be there for him though. It doesn't mean you have to shadow him every minute of every day. Just let him know you're still there and you care."

I laughed, "Now I wish I asked you for advice sooner." he smiled, "I wish you had've came to me sooner too." he opened his arms and I hugged him.

"Thanks dad." I muttered and I woke up. Now I was in my bed and I looked around, my alarm was blaring and I groggily turned it off.

"Are you still in for tonight?" Jace asked, poking his head in the doorway. "If we can bring Matthew along too that would be great. A family outing." Jace smiled, "I'll check with the little man."

A sigh escaped me as I got up and threw on some clothes before walking out.

He looked at me after telling me Matthew was excited to come. "Are you going to talk to Tink?" "I don't think we have much to talk about, seems she's got her thoughts off her mind." I replied shrugging and grabbing my jacket.

"Love you two." I kissed Jace then picked Matthew up and kissed his forehead. "Be safe." "I will." he replied smiling and I let him down before heading to work.
