Slight trigger warning!! Our baby Robbie has a slight panic attack in the middle of this! Just wanted to give y'all a heads up!! Love y'all- hope you enjoy!

Lily Rodgers was hard at work (more like doing absolutely everything she could to avoid homework). Classes had started back up a few weeks ago, and Lily felt like she was already drowning in papers and assignments.

To make matters worse, she was without one of her best friends since childhood, Robbie McClanahan as he was busy getting ready for the Olympics (that overachiever). They were the same age, but Lily was studying to be a teacher and needed an extra year at the U to get everything done with student teaching. It was her last semester on campus- but everyone else had already left, including Robbie who she really hadn't even known a time without him.

The two had grown up down the street from each other, and their older sisters had become fast friends upon Lily's family's entrance into the neighborhood. The two older siblings would drag their younger counterparts with them whenever they would have play dates, and the rest, Lily supposes, is history.

She was grateful for Robbie- he always had something to say about the boys that she dated (although he never stated that he hated them until they broke up) and she always sniffed out the girls he brought over (which they all turned out to not be the best... but she had other reasons for not liking them).

You see, Lily had been deeply in love with Robbie from that very first meeting when they were 5 years old. He had never given her any inclination that he felt the same way, so she continued to date other guys, each one ending with a terrible realization- that none of them could ever be Robbie.

She sighed as she finally peeled herself off of her floor and drug herself over to her desk in her childhood room. Oh yeah, that was the other miserable thing about her last year in college- she had to move home because her apartment building only leased 12 months, and she got placed in White Bear for her student teaching (which she wouldn't be able to work a job while she did so there was no way she could afford rent while she student taught). Thankfully, her parents were some of the coolest people she had ever met and were actually quite excited to have their youngest daughter moving back in with them.

Meanwhile, Robbie was back on campus, with his new team and crazy coach (who she also knew because he lived only a few blocks away from them), living his very best life. He had called a few times, but she knew that he was busy so she never held it against him that they hadn't been able to talk as much as they usually would, and that she hadn't seen him in what felt like months. It was temporary- but she missed her best friend... terribly.

Her dramatic thoughts were interrupted by her mother yelling from downstairs. "Lily! Phone's for you!" She groaned then walked over to where the landline sat next to her bed. She guessed it was a sign she was supposed to not do homework tonight. She picked up the grey telephone and put it to her ear. "Hello?"

"Hey, Lils." A familiar voice said on the other side of the phone. She smiled. "Hey Robbie! What's going on?" The phone crackled. "Oh nothing much. You doing anything tonight?" She glanced back at her desk full of books and papers. "Nope, nothing at all. What did you have in mind?"

"Meet me at the spot in 20."

Lily's breath came in white puffs as she waited by the pond for her best friend. This had been their spot for the last 10 years- they had found it one day while walking back from school, and decided to hang out all day, running by the pond's edge and playing until they realized they were two hours late getting home. They got in serious trouble when they both got to their respective homes, but they thought it was well worth it for the absolute gem that they had found.
