Taylor's pov
—————As soon as I heard Havyns voice on the phone, I knew she wasn't okay. I knew she wasn't safe.
I arrived at the hospital, running through the doors. I had left Theo and Maisie with my mom, who they love. She treats them like they're her grandchildren.
"Excuse me, where's Havyn Grey?" I spoke to the receptionist, scanning the ER. Someone paramedics over heard me.
"You're Taylor Swift?" One asked, I nodded not having the time for this.
"Sorry I have to find Havyn." I smiled about to walk away.
"I know, we brought her in. She was in a bad shape," she looked at me, "she was asking for you. We thought she was just delusional."
She tried to joke about this, I wasn't laughing. They led me to her room, I opened the door slowly.
Havyn looked so fragile, more so than usual. She was curled up in a ball with her back to me, what did they do to her? I walked over to her, trying to not upset her.
"Havie?" I whispered, reaching her bed.
She moved her head to look at me, "Tay." Her voice was wobbly and croaky like she'd been crying for some time. I just climbed into the bed beside her, stroking her side; from her shoulder to her hip.
"I've got you, baby, you're okay." I whispered into her hair.
"Don't let them send me away again." She whispered back to me.
"I won't, I promise." I kissed her head, wanting her to know I'm here for her. She needed me and I wasn't there, which broke my heart even more.
————
The doctor came back in and told us that Havyn was now in the clear of smoke inhalation, and her ankle was just twisted not broken. We both sighed a sigh of relief, still in the same position as earlier.
A little while later, Havyn turned to me so her head was on my chest. Her hand gripped the bottom of my hoodie for comfort. I just kissed her head, allowing her to soak it all in.
"Taylor," she looked up at me with her deep blue ocean eyes, she looked vulnerable and scared, "when do we get the results?"
"I'm not sure, Honey, I hope it's soon." I wished we could know so I could bring my baby girl home. I'd lost thirteen years of her life already, even though it was my fault giving her up. I deeply regretted it every minute of knowing her.
She nodded into me, "I think... I think they tried to kill me." Her voice came out as a whisper as realisation over took her face.
I didn't know how to respond, how could anyone be that cruel? Who would want to do that to anyone, never mind Havyn?
I just pulled her closer to me, "I'm so glad you're okay, sweet girl." I wanted to cry, I noticed some tears slip down her face as she clung onto me more. This girl doesn't need any more of this, she needs a home with people who are going to love her forever. My daughter or not, I want to be that for her. For all of them.
For Theo, the little boy who feared talking to a stranger the first day I met him and didn't understand the concept of needing a village to help.
For Maisie, the baby who just needed someone to show her that people care in the world and that love exists.
For Havyn, who needed a parental figure to show her she's not alone and she can be loved, she's not damaged goods or unfixable.————
Havyns povTaylor hadn't left my side all day, the police came into talk to me. I noticed Taylor's eyes had tears in them as she held onto my hand tightly, while I told them what had happened.
"I couldn't get out, they didn't come and save me," I couldn't look anyone in the eye, "I screamed so loud but no one heard a thing. Until the fire department came."
It was slightly embarrassing for me, like who gets locked in a basement because they answered the door. I didn't want them to see how scared I was, I knew Taylor could. I struggle to hide things from her as much as I want to. She just sees through my fake act.
"What happens now?" I asked the police officer.
"We'll take statements from everyone else and get back to you." They wrote some things onto their notepads.
"That's it?" I questioned, "they tried to kill me."
"It could've been an accident."
"The fire? Yes. But that doesn't explain why she was locked in a basement," Taylor stood up, she looked beyond angry, "they're not innocent, either way."
The police officers looked at each other, "we're just doing our jobs."
"And I'm doing mine, protecting her. Maybe you should do the same," Taylor marched over to the door, "I think you should leave."
I'm glad Taylor was here for this. I didn't want her here at the time. I didn't want her to hear the things that went on in that house, that happened to me.
"Hungry?" Taylor's face had changed into a much more gentle expression. I could tell she was still annoyed deep down but she was lightening the mood.
"I'm okay, thanks." I gave her a small smile.
She looked concerned, "when did you last eat?"
"Before the fire." I lied. Lied to the only person who's shown me any type of love.
She nodded, "okay we can get something later."
I didn't really know what to do, Taylor and my relationship was a bit strange. We never really talk much apart from all the scary shit that's been happening. She normally just comforts me and we sit in a comfortable silence. I didn't know how to fill this silence, I didn't know what to say to her. I hated that I've been so open and vulnerable to her. It makes me feel sick to my stomach, knowing I can taken away at any time.
"Do you think I'm your kid?" I asked quietly, filling the silence.
"I'm not sure, Havie. I hope so." She smiled at me.
"Is that why you're helping us?"
"Because you might be my daughter? Of course not. I've no obligation to Theo and Maisie and I still care for them as well," she looked offended, "my daughter or not, I'll do anything to keep the three of you together."
I nodded, not knowing what to say.
Sasha appeared at the door, "hey Havyn, how are you?"
"Fine." I mumbled.
"Now," she looked at her file, "we've some things to talk about."
