Havyns pov
—————Shakily, I stood in front of the judge swearing my oath of honesty. I knew this was about to be personal for me, it was the main thing that would let my siblings stay with us.
"So, Havyn, you've grown up with Theo and Maisie right?" A tall man stood in front of me, the same one who terrorised Taylor and Travis earlier on.
I nodded.
"Verbal answers, Miss Swift."
"Yes, Sir." My voice cracked.
"And you were adopted?"
"I was," I replied, "we only found that out recently."
"Would have made a difference in your relationship with your siblings if you'd found out earlier?" He stared straight into my soul.
"Of course not. And that's indicating towards any people who are adopted or have adopted relatives, that they're not 'real' family, which is incorrect and just rude." I found something in me that was ready to fight back.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that," he took a step back, "why don't you describe your childhood with them, then?"
I took a deep breath as Chris wanted an objection towards the question.
"It's okay," I gave the strange man a small smile, "their birth parents adopted me, so we grew up together. However, how they passed the adoption process I've no idea," I held tears in my eyes, "we survived hell in that house. I raised them and Taylor saved us."
"You say you 'survived hell' what do you mean by that?"
"Physical and emotional abuse," i announced firmly, "I was admitted to the hospital for it three times in the past year of living in that house. Never mind the abuse we hid from everyone we knew."
"Why didn't you tell someone?"
"We were terrified of this. Terrified of being split up." My voice was shaking again.
"What makes you think that Miss Swift could be a better parental figure? After all, she sent you to that house."
"You're wrong, the system sent me to that house. Taylor was doing what was best for me at the time, the system failed me. Failed all three of us," I took a breath, "I know Taylor would be a better Mom because she has been more than welcoming and loving to all of us in the last year, than anyone ever has in my entire life."
"But she-"
"She did nothing wrong, and is doing everything right. She's taken all of us in without knowing I was her biological child and she's still fighting for Theo and Maisie because she's a good mom." I interrupted him, annoyed at what he was implying.
"What about when she goes on tour?"
"Do you have kids, sir?" I questioned him.
"I do, two girls." He smiled.
"Where are they right now?" I asked.
"With a nanny."
"So why is it any different for Taylor? She can use a nanny or her parents or Travis. Yeah she has a demanding job but she's puts us first no matter what." I finished.
Silence filled the room. No one knew what to say, there was nothing to say. The man standing in front of me was lost for words.
"I think this discussion is over." The judge spoke, "I shall come to an agreement within the next thirty minutes." With that she stood and walked into a side room.
I turned to Taylor, whose eyes were filled with tears but she had the biggest smile on her face as she held a sleeping Theo on her lap.
I made my way over to my family, trying not to smile. There was no way they couldn't let them stay with us after that. I'm all they know. Maisie and Theo haven't lived a day without me, minus the time that the social worker sent me away from Taylor.
Travis wrapped me in his arms, kissing the top of my head. Almost making me cry, I knew I couldn't look at Taylor or I wouldn't ever stop sobbing.
"I'm so proud of you, Haves." Travis kept an arm around me as he scooped Maisie up in the other. I lent against him for support, noticing Taylor looking at me with a tear stained face. She couldn't move because of Theo, knowing he needed his sleep.
"Do you think we've got this?" I whispered to Travis.
"I think you killed that out there and I'd be surprised if not." He smiled but he still had a nervous look on his face.
I knew we'd have a while until they came out with the outcome. I sat down beside Taylor, bouncing my knee with nerves. We all needed this win.
"You did so well up there,". Taylor spoke to me, "the Havyn I met that first day couldn't have done that."
She was right. I never thought I could ever speak like that especially in court. Fighting for my two favourite people brought something out of me that I didn't know I had.
"You showed them you cared." Taylor smiled, repeating what I had said to her when we first met her. I smiled, hoping it was all enough for them.
I looked up at Travis and Maisie, who were swaying gently. Maisie was cuddled right into him, seeking comfort and support from him. This must be so confusing for her and Theo. Seeing them together really made me think how could you split them up? They were meant to be father and daughter. We all were.
This is my family and I'll continue to fight for us if I have to.
—————
We were sitting for ages, waiting on our result. I couldn't move, no one could. The anticipation was killing us all. Andrea had came and collected Theo and Maisie as they both had fallen asleep. It had been a long day for everyone and they were only little. The judge had allowed them to go home for that reason and if it doesn't go in our favour, then they can be picked up tomorrow.
I appreciated that as it meant we got one last night with my siblings no matter what happened today. Taylor hadn't let go of my hand the whole time, I could see thousands of thoughts racing around her head.
We were all on edge.
That's when the door burst open behind us and four paramedics ran in past us, everyone stood up to see what was going on. Taylor held me in front of her protectively, making sure there was no paparazzi near as she has to be on high alert at all times.
No one knew what was going on as the paramedics went into the room with the judge. I started to worry, what was happening?
A tall lady walked out towards us, introducing herself to Taylor and Travis.
"Hello, I'm Julia Turner," she smiled, "the judge on your case has taken unwell very suddenly, meaning we'll have to reschedule."
"Reschedule?" Taylor's voice was almost at a shout, "we've finished everything. We just need an answer!"
Travis placed his hand on Taylor's lower back, "I'm sorry about the judge, however we are just waiting on the final result."
"I'm sorry there's nothing I can do."
I broke down into tears as Julia offered me tissues, "I don't need the tissues, I need my siblings to stay with me." I spat out, eyeing her up in disgust. Taylor rubbed my back, reassuring me that it'll all work out.
But what if it doesn't?
