Chapter 41

The next morning*

Katie's POV

I woke up to a nightmare, the scene of how my mother died replaying in my dreams. I sat up staring at Alex that was sitting reading a book. I wondered where he got it.

"You are awake" he spoke without looking.

"Good morning" I greeted before letting out a yawn. There was a knock on the door, Alex got up opening it.

"Good morning" it was my aunt. The queen.

Without a word Alex opened the door and she came in. " How do you sleep?" She asked me moving to the bed.

"I slept well, thank you" I smiled. "I assume you have read the book" she said to me and I nodded slowly.

"We have to set off to ghoul Town today" Alex spoke.

"The ritual will be taking place there, we must stop it before it is completed" Alex added.

"Very well, breakfast will be ready soon , you two should get ready" she said and got up leaving the room. I faced Alex.

"What ritual?" I asked pulling myself off the bed.

"The witches and the ghouls have been working together...they want to take over the underworld" he started.

I blinked in surprise. "The ritual will strip all the creatures in the underworld of their power they will be no less than a puppet"

"But it would not work on vampires which is Why they did the mutation first, to have control over the vampires" he looked at the scroll.

"The ritual takes place at midnight in ghoul Town and only....you can stop it, which is why they are trying to get rid of you " he ended.

"Me?" I breathed out. "How will I stop it...I am no less than a human" I mumbled he stared at me without a reply.

"We should get ready" he muttered.

I went into the bathroom to take my bath. Those thoughts clouded my mind. It was like the whole of the underworld was depending on me.

I eventually left the bathroom. Then Alex went in. We left the room together. I saw both councilmen sitting at the table having a conversation with the queen.

We joined and ate breakfast I could not help but be paranoid, one of the councilman was working for the witches and we do not know who it is.

"We have to leave now, we can not stay for too long" councilman William told the queen that nodded in understanding.

"Please come visit again, when all this is over" she said.

"Of course thank you for having us" councilman Tyler piped in.

"Katherine" she called and I left Alex's side moving to her. "Be careful, I trust that Alex has told you all you need to know" I nodded .

While the others were talking away from us. "Please come visit soon" she said.

"I will auntie" I replied an she smiled before pulling me into a hug.

We walked back to the others. She gave Alex a nod and he nodded back.

"Alright, safe travels" she said as we exited. She had insisted to pack some food for us. We loaded the food in councilman William and Tyler's carriage.

We left the castle saying goodbye one more time.

"Alex, what do we do?" I asked as both councilmen walked ahead. "How are we going to head to ghoul Town without the councilmen suspecting?"  I whispered.
