PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT I MISS HEARING YOU GUYS' THOUGHTSThe morning sun bathed Stars Hollow in a warm, golden light as Alessia walked beside her father, Christopher, toward Luke's Diner. The small town was beginning to stir, with shopkeepers opening their doors and early risers making their way to their usual breakfast spots. Despite the peaceful atmosphere, Alessia felt a knot of tension in her stomach. She was nervous about how this breakfast might go—how Luke would react to seeing her with Christopher.
As they approached the diner, Alessia caught sight of Luke through the window, bustling around behind the counter. He looked up just as they reached the door, his expression darkening the moment he saw Christopher. Alessia took a deep breath and pushed open the door, the familiar bell above it jingling softly.
"Morning, Luke," Alessia greeted, trying to sound cheerful.
Luke didn't respond immediately, his eyes narrowing as he focused on Christopher. "Alessia," he finally said, his voice gruff. "What can I get you?"
"I'll have my usual," Alessia replied, slipping into a booth. Christopher sat down across from her, a hesitant smile on his face.
"And you?" Luke asked, turning his attention to Christopher with a barely concealed scowl.
"Uh, coffee, and maybe some pancakes?" Christopher said, trying to keep things light.
Luke didn't respond, instead turning away with a muttered, "Right." He moved behind the counter, preparing their order with a little more force than necessary, slamming the coffee pot down on the burner.
Christopher leaned across the table, lowering his voice. "Is he always this, uh, welcoming?"
Alessia gave him a small, tight smile. "Luke's protective. He doesn't like seeing me get hurt."
Christopher's smile faltered, guilt flashing in his eyes. "I know I've made mistakes, Alessia. But I'm trying to make up for them."
Before Alessia could respond, Luke returned with their coffees, setting them down with a sharp clink. "Here," he said curtly, not meeting Christopher's gaze.
"Thanks, Luke," Alessia said, trying to ease the tension.
Luke just grunted, turning on his heel and heading back to the kitchen. Alessia watched him go, feeling a pang of discomfort. She knew Luke was just looking out for her, but it made things awkward. She didn't want to be caught in the middle of whatever this was.
"So," Christopher said, clearing his throat as he took a sip of his coffee, "graduation's coming up soon. Excited?"
"Yeah," Alessia replied, though her mind was still on Luke's cold demeanor. "It's going to be weird, though. High school's been... a lot."
Christopher nodded. "I know I haven't been around as much as I should have been, but I'm really proud of you, Alessia. Graduating, getting through all the ups and downs—you've done amazing."
