Monday morning at Stars Hollow High was off to a predictably mundane start. Alessia, Isabella, and Jess sat through the first few classes with varying degrees of interest. Alessia doodled in her notebook, Isabella tapped her pencil rhythmically, and Jess leaned back in his chair, balancing it precariously on its hind legs, earning the occasional glare from the teacher.
By lunchtime, the trio found themselves plotting ways to break the monotony. Isabella, always up for an adventure, proposed an idea that had Alessia giggling and Jess smirking.
"We should totally release the frogs from the biology lab," Isabella suggested, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
Alessia choked on her soda. "You're kidding, right?"
"Come on, Alessia. It's harmless fun," Isabella coaxed.
Jess, leaning against the wall, added, "Plus, it might give Mrs. Jenkins a heart attack. I've been dying to see that woman lose her cool."
"Alright, fine. But if we get caught, it's on you two," Alessia relented, a grin spreading across her face.
As the lunch bell rang, they made their way to the biology lab. The hallways were quiet, and the three of them slipped inside unnoticed. Jess quickly located the cage of frogs, expertly undoing the latch.
"Be free, little guys," he whispered, opening the door.
The frogs hopped out eagerly, dispersing across the lab and heading for the open door. Isabella stifled a giggle, Alessia's eyes widened in a mix of horror and amusement, and Jess wore a satisfied smirk.
"Now, let's get out of here before someone shows up," Alessia urged.
But just as they turned to leave, the door swung open, and Mrs. Jenkins herself stood there, her eyes widening at the sight of her liberated frogs.
"What in the world...?" she sputtered, her face turning a shade of red Alessia didn't think was humanly possible.
"Uh, Mrs. Jenkins, we can explain," Isabella began, but it was too late.
"Principal's office. All three of you. Now," Mrs. Jenkins ordered, pointing towards the door.
The walk to the principal's office felt like a march of doom. Once inside, they sat in a row of chairs, waiting for their judgment. Principal Reynolds, a no-nonsense woman with a penchant for stern looks, surveyed them over her glasses.
"Care to explain why the biology lab looks like a scene from a frog horror movie?" she asked dryly.
Jess shrugged nonchalantly. "We thought they could use some exercise."
Principal Reynolds sighed deeply. "Detention. All three of you. After school, for the rest of the week."
As they left the office, Alessia couldn't help but laugh. "Well, that went well."
