Alessia awoke to the sound of her alarm blaring, signaling the start of another school day. She stretched and glanced at the time before getting out of bed. Her morning routine was swift, a practiced series of motions as she got dressed, brushed her teeth, and grabbed her backpack. As she headed downstairs, the familiar aroma of coffee filled the air.
Lorelai was in the kitchen, sipping her coffee and flipping through a magazine. "Morning, Rory," she said without looking up, her voice bright and cheerful.
Alessia paused, waiting for her mother to acknowledge her. When it became clear that wasn't going to happen, she sighed and poured herself a cup of coffee. "Morning, Mom," she said softly, hoping for at least a nod in her direction.
Lorelai mumbled something unintelligible, still engrossed in her magazine. Alessia shook her head, the familiar sting of being overlooked settling in. She grabbed an apple from the counter and headed out the door, ready to face another day.
At school, Alessia made her way through the crowded hallways, feeling more at ease once she spotted Isabella waiting by their lockers. "Hey, Bella," Alessia greeted with a smile.
"Hey, Al," Isabella replied, her tone a mix of concern and frustration. "Have you heard about Quinnie and her crew? They've been on a rampage lately, bullying everyone in sight. It's like they're on a mission to make everyone's life miserable."
Alessia's eyes widened. "Seriously? I hadn't heard. That's awful."
"Yeah," Isabella said, rolling her eyes. "They've been targeting people who don't fit their little clique. It's like they're trying to assert dominance or something."
Alessia shook her head in disbelief. "That's so messed up. I'll keep my distance."
They headed to their first class together, which was English. They settled into their seats and started working on a group project. Their dynamic was easy and natural, and they quickly fell into a rhythm. Isabella was focused, and Alessia was right there with her, their conversation flowing seamlessly as they collaborated on the assignment.
In the middle of the lesson, Alessia noticed Quinnie from the cheerleading squad glaring at them from across the room. Quinnie had always looked at them with distaste, and today was no different. Alessia tried to ignore her and focused on their project instead.
"Alright, class," Mr. Thompson said, clapping his hands to get their attention. "I need those essays on my desk by Friday. No exceptions."
Alessia and Isabella exchanged a glance. "Guess we know what we'll be doing tonight," Isabella whispered.
"Yeah, can't wait," Alessia replied with a sarcastic smile.
When the bell rang, signaling the end of class, they packed up their things and headed to the cafeteria for lunch. They met up with Beau, who was already sitting at their usual table. "Hey, guys," Beau greeted, his tray loaded with food.
"Hey, Beau," Alessia said, plopping down beside him. Isabella sat across from them, and they quickly fell into easy conversation, laughing and joking like they'd been friends forever.
"So, did you see the football game last night?" Beau asked, taking a bite of his sandwich.
"Yeah, it was wild!" Alessia said, shaking her head. "I can't believe they actually pulled it off."
Isabella laughed. "I was on the edge of my seat the entire time."
Their lunch was a mix of lighthearted banter and shared laughter. After a while, Isabella excused herself to go to the library. "I'll catch up with you guys later," she said, grabbing her bag.
"See you later, Bella," Alessia called after her.
Just as Isabella left, Quinnie sauntered over to their table. "Hey, Beau," she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. She completely ignored Alessia as she sat down next to him, leaning in a little too close. "I was wondering if you could help me with my math homework later?"
Beau looked uncomfortable. "Uh, sure, Quinnie."
Alessia rolled her eyes. "Beau's not your personal tutor, Quinnie. Maybe you should try paying attention in class."
Quinnie shot her a withering look. "No one asked you, Alessia."
Alessia stood up, glaring at Quinnie. "Maybe you should start showing a little respect."
Quinnie smirked. "Why don't you mind your own business?"
Beau quickly intervened. "Alright, let's all just calm down."
Alessia grabbed her tray and walked away, not wanting to escalate the situation further. She found a quiet corner in the cafeteria and sat down, trying to calm her nerves. Moments later, Beau joined her.
"Sorry about that," he said, sitting down across from her.
"It's fine," Alessia replied, though her anger was still simmering. "I just can't stand people like her."
"Me neither," Beau agreed. "But hey, let's not let her ruin our day."
Alessia nodded, forcing a smile. "Yeah, you're right. Thanks, Beau."
They spent the rest of lunch talking and laughing, trying to forget about Quinnie's antics. Despite the rocky start, the day slowly began to improve, and Alessia felt grateful for friends like Beau and Isabella who made everything a little bit better.
