The hospital room was a quiet haven, filled with the soft murmurs of family members as they gathered to meet Autumn and Winter's newborn son. Despite the sterile, bright surroundings, the atmosphere was warm, brimming with the love and excitement that come with welcoming a new life.
Autumn lay back in the hospital bed, her face showing signs of fatigue but also a quiet satisfaction. She wasn't overly emotional, but her calm smile spoke volumes about the contentment she felt at the moment. Winter sat close by, holding their tiny baby boy in his arms, his usually composed demeanour softened by the awe and love that filled his eyes.
Mia and Charlotte arrived first, slipping into the room with a sense of reverence. Hand-in-hand, they shared a look of shared emotion as they saw the baby for the first time. Their two little girls, Grace and Felicity, peeked from behind their legs, their curiosity evident in their wide eyes.
Mia's voice was thick with emotion as she leaned in close, her hand hovering just above the baby's head. "Oh, Autumn, he's beautiful."
Autumn gave a small smile, her expression steady and serene. "Thank you. It feels good to finally have him here with us."
Charlotte leaned over, her eyes shimmering as she took in the sight of the baby. "He's perfect," she said softly, her voice full of awe. Gently, she took the baby from Winter's arms, cradling him with the practised ease of a mother. "Welcome to the world, Michael Joey Fortune-Knight," she cooed, brushing a gentle kiss across his tiny forehead.
As the door opened again, Reece and Marjorie entered, followed by Carly. Reece, always the calm and steady presence, couldn't hide the emotion in his eyes as he approached the bed. Marjorie, smiling warmly, moved to Autumn's side, her gaze softening as she took in the sight of the baby.
"Congratulations, you two," Reece said, his voice filled with quiet pride as he leaned down to kiss Autumn's cheek. He then clapped Winter on the shoulder, his respect for his brother-in-law clear in the gesture. "He's got a strong name. I'm sure he'll live up to it."
Marjorie leaned in, her eyes twinkling as she looked at Michael. "He's going to be a heartbreaker, just like his dad," she teased, making everyone chuckle softly. Carly stood beside her, watching the baby with wide eyes, a gentle smile playing on her lips.
"Can I hold him?" Carly asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Charlotte handed Michael over to Carly, who took him with all the care in the world. As she cradled him in her arms, her face lit up with a smile of pure affection. "Hi there, little guy," she whispered. "I'm your cousin Carly, and I can't wait to spoil you."
Grace and Felicity, who had been shyly standing by, finally gathered the courage to step closer. Grace tugged on Charlotte's sleeve, her voice a hushed whisper. "Can we see him too?"
"Of course, sweetie," Charlotte said, kneeling down so the girls could get a better look. "This is Michael. He's a little sleepy now, but I'm sure he'll want to play with you when he's bigger."
Felicity giggled, covering her mouth as she looked at the baby. "He's so small! Like a doll!"
Autumn watched the interaction with a quiet smile, her heart full even if she wasn't showing it on her face. "He is small now, but he'll grow fast," she said. "And soon, he'll be running around with you two."
The room filled with soft laughter, the kind that comes from the joy of new life and the bonds of family. For a moment, time seemed to stand still, with everyone suspended in this perfect moment of togetherness.
The door opened once more, and in walked Winter's parents, their faces alight with excitement. They had driven for hours to be there, not wanting to miss the chance to meet their first grandchild. After hugs and kisses were exchanged, the baby was passed from one loving pair of arms to another.
Winter's mother, her eyes glistening with tears, held Michael close, her heart swelling with pride. "He's everything I dreamed he would be," she said softly, her voice trembling with emotion.
Winter's father, a man of few words, gently placed a hand on Winter's shoulder. "You've done well," he said quietly, his tone conveying all the pride he felt.
As the baby continued to be passed around, each person taking their turn to hold him and marvel at his tiny features, the room was filled with a sense of peace and unity. Grace and Felicity, now more comfortable, giggled as they tried to peek at the new baby, their excitement growing with every minute.
Autumn remained calm, her emotions held in check, but the love she felt was evident in the way she looked at her son and the family gathered around him. "I'm glad you're all here," she said quietly, her voice steady. "This means a lot to us."
Winter, his eyes still shining with unshed tears, squeezed Autumn's hand gently. "We're lucky to have all of you," he added, his voice filled with gratitude. "Thank you for being here, and for loving our son as much as we do."
Mia, still holding Autumn's other hand, smiled warmly. "We're family. That's what we do," she said, her voice full of conviction.
As the evening wore on, the family remained by Autumn and Winter's side, savouring the joy of welcoming a new life into their midst. They shared stories, laughed together, and looked forward to the future with hope and love. It was a day they would all remember—a day when their family grew a little bigger, and their hearts a little fuller.
Mia leaned over to her wife, with a small smile on her face.
"Soon that will be us." She said, nodding to Autumn and Winter, who were holding little Mick in their arms. You could see all the love in their eyes. They deserved all the happiness in the world.

Mia and Charlotte sat on the couch, their hands intertwined as they nervously waited for the phone to ring. When it finally did, Mia answered with a shaky breath. The doctor's calm, reassuring voice on the other end brought a wave of relief as he informed them that they had four viable embryos and it was time to schedule the transfer. As the date was set, Mia squeezed Charlotte's hand, a mix of excitement and anxiety filling the room. This was the next big step in their journey to expand their family.
