I took a deep breath and walked over to the window with a glass in my hand just as my landlady's voice came from down the hall, "Miss Shannon, wait, you're not allowed to go there. Mr. Gray doesn't want any visitors!" I scowled and set the glass down on the coffee table.

"I need to talk to him. It's urgent!" I walked out of the living room and saw a blonde girl in black jeans and a sweatshirt. She could wear anything and always looked beautiful and cute. It was true that we hadn't been together for a few days. Actually since here Maximiliano made his appearance, and I had neither appetite nor energy for any other company after that, as I was completely exhausted by the conversation.

"Kristen, it's okay" I said and then they both turned to me. With a nod, Kristen walked back into the kitchen and Shannon looked at me with a searching look, "which is so urgent it can't wait until morning, Shannon?" I raised an eyebrow and she handed me a yellow envelope.

"Can you explain what this is, William?" I peered inside and pulled out its contents.

"Where did you get that from?" I looked up in surprise from the photo and the folder about it.

You should be careful who you let into your life. It may not turn out the best for you.

He knows absolutely everything about you.

He's not who you think he is.

"It hit home for me today. William, did you have me checked? Why?" she crossed her arms over her chest.

"I check all employees so that I don't have criminals in my company," she nodded in understanding.

"And the link and the photos? Those are pretty intimate photos, William. Someone's trying to scare me-" Kristen cut her off, holding my ringing phone in her hand.

"Mr. Grey, you have a call. Marcus is calling you." I nodded and she handed it to me. With a nod and a call we walked into the living room.

"Yes, Marcus, what's going on?" I looked into her eyes and they mysteriously soothed me.

"William..." came Marcus' quiet voice on the other end of the call.

"Marcus?" I called out.

"Lucas he," an unpleasant feeling passed through me, "William, Lucas is dead." his voice was filled with pain. When I realized the meaning of his words, my head spun and my heart did a strong somersault.

The phone fell out of my hand.

My ears began to ring.

Lucas is dead.

Marcus' voice echoed in my head like some bad melody that I couldn't get rid of. Lucas's ever-smiling face appeared before my eyes. I got goosebumps all over my body.

I couldn't believe it.

My whole body shook under the pressure of my heart and I fell to the ground. Time stopped and everything around me slowed down.

I didn't feel her touch. I didn't hear what she was saying. I could only perceive and hear Marcus's words, which I could not believe.

Why was life so unpredictable and fate unfathomable?

I raised my head when I felt someone's hands lift me up and then they hugged me. Marcus was with me again, I was not alone.

"What happened?" I said when I finally came to my senses.

"He had a car accident, he was dead on the spot." I closed my eyelids painfully. That's when I noticed her too. I couldn't miss her tearful look.

"Take her away. Dereck, get her out." Marcus ordered.

"William?" she looked at me. I knew she was waiting for an explanation that I couldn't give her right now. Dereck grabbed her elbow and dragged her away from my house. I walked over to the bar and pulled out a bottle from which I drank. Fuel the taste passed through my throat and I closed my eyelids deliciously.

"Before the car accident, we called each other. He was on his way home because Sofia called him, who wasn't feeling well. He told me that he had been watching the black SUV that had been following him all the way. The connection kept dropping, I couldn't hear what he was saying and then the call was dropped. This came to me as soon as the call went off." he handed me the phone with the photo of Lucas' crashed car.
