I turned to the next page of my notepad and tried to get the words written there into my head. The exam date was approaching and I was getting more and more nervous. I studied honestly the whole semester, but I was nervous anyway. I finally had a lunch break at work, which I used to read my notes from school.

I was sitting in the corner of his company's restaurant. I needed peace and quiet while studying, which I found here. I was reading the last line when a man's voice spoke.

"Miss Wood?" I was startled and forced to look up at the charming voice. I gulped and had to blink a few times.

Is William Gray himself really standing before me right now?

"Mr. Grey, did something happen?" I stood up, "Did I do something? I'm on my lunch break..." he interrupted me.

"You didn't do anything, everything is fine," I breathed a sigh of relief and he motioned for me to sit down again, "May I sit down?" no, I nodded

"Yes," he sat down and raised an eyebrow, "I'm studying. I have my final exams in a few days." he nodded in understanding.

"Interesting how you spend your free time on such a young girl," I looked into his devilish eyes. His voice was so cold, "I would like to give your internship to someone else." and this time his words chilled me. I looked at him horrified and could not believe the words he said. I really worked hard for that internship and I think I deserved it. I didn't understand it..

"What?" I must be dreaming, "Did I do something? Did Celeste tell you something? I was only late once and that was just because I was stuck in traffic. It will never happen again, I promise. Don't throw me out. " he took my hand, and that silenced me enough. I looked at his manly hand with small hairs and swallowed. His cool and pleasant touch sent chills all over my body.

And he obviously noticed because I saw a small smirk on his face

"Calm down, I want to promote you to my assistant. Monika is just leaving, so the position is now vacant." I widened my eyes in surprise and raised my eyebrows. I really didn't expect this. I never thought that I could work in such a high-ranking company and not be an assistant to the main owner of the company. .

I guess my mouth fell to the ground from so much surprise. I didn't know what to do and how to react. My head started working at one hundred and six. I looked at him with a searching look and narrowed my eyes.

I tried to read something from his face. At first I thought he was teasing me, but someone so serious about such things would certainly not be joking. I can't imagine this man, the head of the most luxurious company in New York joking, it just didn't work out.

"Or you don't care?" he frowned.

"No, yes. I really want it, Mr. Grey. I'm just shocked and surprised. I never thought I would get such an opportunity." I smiled at him.

"But you got it." I smiled even bigger.

"You surprised me." I was not ready for such a thing, I would never be ready.

"So you agree?" I nodded gently, "great. I'll call you tomorrow. Expect my call." he said and we both stood up. We shook hands and it was as if electricity passed through me from that touch.

Did he feel it too?

I can tell from his serious face that it was only in my head.

"Goodbye Miss Wood" I smiled nervously.

"Goodbye, Mr. Grey." Still in shock, I sat down on the chair and took a long time to process the fact that he promoted me to his assistant.

I unlocked the door to our apartment and took off my clothes. I put the keys on the wardrobe and took off my coat. I hung it up and entered the living room, "I'm home!" I shouted and after a while a brown head emerged from the bathroom.

"How was work?" I smiled.

"Great. You won't believe what happened to me," she came out of the bathroom in a bathrobe and sat down on the couch. She was impatiently waiting, "I was promoted to assistant boss." I squealed and when it dawned on her she ran to me.

"But that's a bomb! We have to celebrate, Shannon!" I gave a convulsive smile.

"I'm so happy, Lacey! I don't know what to do with so much joy! I never would have thought of that." Lacey smiled at me.

"I'm looking forward to being with you," we sat on the bed, "I'm jealous of you now. You'll have such a handsome man in your sights every day, and a rich one at that. Making him coffee, some hard sex on the table." I hit her.

"What are you shaking, Lacey? Only he would want something like that from me," I laughed, "he wouldn't even lean a bicycle against me." I rolled my eyes and shook my head.

"So you're really thinking about it, you bitch!" I frowned.

"Lacey, stop talking nonsense. You know I'm not looking for a relationship. I need to focus on school and my future. A man plays no role in my future." she rolled her eyes.

"Jesus, Shannon, it's just sex, not a wedding," she laughed.

"I won't listen to it." I stood up and headed to the bathroom to take a hot bath.

"Boring, Shannon, boring! You're sooooo boring, Shannon, it hurts for you. No one wants you to marry him right away. One sex, one night, nothing more."

"Lacey, that's enough. I can't sleep with my boss, for God's sake!" she rolled her eyes again.

"It doesn't have to be your boss, Shannon. You have a beautiful face and the body of a goddess. You are a great friend and a great person. I know you've been through a lot and there were sad times, but that's in the past. Don't be stuck somewhere you shouldn't be for a long time. The past should remain the past. Nobody knows the future yet, and the present? There you are now. Every day you close yourself off from the male gender and I can't understand it every day. Something happened and I know it, Shannon. You can pretend that nothing is happening, but I don't get tired of it anymore. Tell me what's going on and we'll solve it together, I promise." I looked into her eyes and tried to fight back the tears.

"As you say. The past should remain the past." my heart stung when I saw the disappointment in her eyes.

"Fine, but don't expect me to miss such a great opportunity. You'll see me in the office more often than at home!" she laughed and I rolled my eyes.
