April

Nine years ago

I was lying on the bed watching a movie when I heard unfamiliar voices from my father's study. I sat on the bed and lowered my legs. I reached for the candy, which I put in my mouth.

I let the unknown voices out of my head and concentrated on the series that was running on the laptop. After a long while, I decided to go get another coca-cola, because I already drank one an hour ago. I left the room and went to the stairs, which I went down to the kitchen. I was just getting water out of the fridge when I heard a scream. I jerked and the wheels almost fell out of my hands. I slowly walked over to the wall, from where I had a view of my father's office.

"Don't get involved. I don't want to hurt you," said an unknown voice.

"What did you do?" said the father.

"That's none of your business."

"I will interfere, he is my uncle. What did he do?" it was rude to listen to conversations, but I was so curious. I slowly walked to the door, which was ajar. Opposite my father's desk stood three men in black and weapons - I rolled my eyes. Father was sitting behind the table and Gabriel was next to him.

"Well, as you can see, he is not here," said the father to the unknown man.

"But you certainly know where it is. You are brothers."

"He doesn't tell me about his hobbies," the man in the middle laughed

"Don't make me kill you," he growled.

"Okay, no one will kill anyone. Father, tell him where he is and let them go," Gabriel spoke. My little brother...

"Shut up!" spoke another man.

"We don't have all day for you! Say where the fuck is he!" growled the third man.

"Ian, you won't save him. We will find him with or without your help. He's already a dead man," spoke again the one in the middle.

"I really don't know where he is."

"Four, kill them!" the man spoke and I swallowed.

"Tell your brother that he has three hours to surrender. Then he's sure to die." I hid behind the corner because they were already leaving. I leaned against the wall and gasped when I heard a gunshot. The front door slammed after a few minutes.

"Gabriel!" shouted my father. I flew into the study and stopped at the door. Gabriel was lying in my father's arms and my heart stopped.

"Gabriel," I whispered. I fell to the ground and crawled on all fours to the bloody Gabriel.

"Call an ambulance!" shouted my father, but I couldn't control it.

"Brother," I sobbed and held his face in my hands.

"O-Father, I-I'm-sorry," he spoke laboriously, and Gordon entered the room.

"The ambulance is on its way," Gordon said. Crocodile tears were running down my face and I couldn't believe my eyes.

"It'll be fine, Gab! The ambulance is on its way." He pressed his jacket on his bloody wound.

"Gabriel?" he slowly closed his eyes.

"Gabriel, stay with me! can you hear Don't close your eyes, don't close your eyes!" his father was saying, but he couldn't hear him anymore.

He couldn't..

for his head fell back and his chest never rose again.

"Gabriel Majerick!" and my father's shout will accompany me for the rest of my life.
