Ciudad Juárez, Mexico
August

We sat in silence for a long time, I guess since landing at the airport. I needed peace and Damario fully understood that. He sacrificed so much for me that I felt like I didn't even deserve him. He stood by my side for many years, he was one of the few people in whose hands I would entrust my life. We always knew how to rely on each other in crisis situations. Just as I believed in him, he believed in me.

"Am I doing the right thing?" I spoke into the silence. I asked him a question I promised myself I wouldn't say out loud, but I needed to hear it from him anyway.

"Whether you do or not, it doesn't matter, my friend. If we don't act, many people will die. It's time to stop it." he was right, but I was afraid of the consequences. I knew I had to do something to stop the coming war before innocent people paid the price.

"What if it doesn't go according to plan?" I leaned back on the seat as if it was going to swallow me up, and that's exactly what I wish for right now.

There was so much left unanswered.

"You gave him freedom, he owes you," I snorted, because that means nothing to a person like him.

"As if you don't know him, Dam," he put his hand on my shoulder and caught my attention.

"Max, you have the same enemy. I know the bastard can't be trusted, but trust your instincts. Otherwise you wouldn't have come here and gone this far. It is our only and especially the last option. He knows something we don't." I nodded because I had no choice, but I'd rather not have to face him. It didn't go very well last time. If they hadn't intervened one of us would have died.

This waiting was killing me, we were running out of time and she was three steps ahead.

The big iron gate suddenly opened and three figures appeared from behind it - two policemen and he was standing between them.

"The fun begins," I stepped out with a stone face. The gate finally closed and the two policemen disappeared behind it.

"Should I thank you?" he walked over to me.

"Get on. We're flying to New York." without another word we got into the car and then boarded the plane that took us to NY. After four hours the plane finally landed and we got into the car. All the way to his villa my heart was pounding so hard that I he felt like he was going to explode at any moment. We went inside and went to the living room where everyone was waiting - just as I ordered.

"Where have you been, Maximiliano?" I ignored Ander and searched his gaze, which was swept away.

"Who is it?" he nodded his head towards me.

"This is Rayan, Isabel's brother," the room fell silent.

"Why did you bring him?" he asked coldly and I shot myself.

"To help you, because you're all just a bunch of wretches," he spoke, anger running through me.

"Mind your words, Rayan. You're under my roof." Rayan snorted.

"Do you think I'm afraid of you, Four? Don't forget who I am!" I turned my head towards him and glared at him.

"We don't have time for this shit. Rayan, say what you know." I challenged him and he sat down in his chair. He spread his legs and tilted his head back.

"I know who owns the Base," he said boredly.

"Who?" Damario asked.

"Carson Ballard," I raised an eyebrow in surprise.

"Impossible," growled Marcus, "does anyone really believe him? He died twelve years ago. His plane burned down."

"Are you sure about that?" he laughed.

"What do you know about him?" I asked him.

"Nothing much, but I know who can help you with that," he grinned dangerously and looked at me boldly.

"Who?" I swallowed because I was beginning to fear the answer.

"I think you know that, Maximiliano D'Angelo."
