The next day, Ashwin and Sivaangi woke up early, feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. They were going to meet Ashwin's mother, and Sivaangi couldn't help but feel a little anxious. Ashwin noticed her fidgeting and took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"Hey, don't worry," he said, smiling calmly. "My mom will love you. She's really sweet once you get to know her."
Sivaangi smiled back, feeling a bit better. "Okay, I'll try to relax."
They finished getting ready and came out of their room, where Akash and Monisha were already waiting. Akash was bouncing with excitement, while Monisha looked a bit more subdued.
"Ready to meet Ashwin's mom?" Akash asked, grinning at Sivaangi.
Sivaangi took a deep breath and nodded. "As ready as I'll ever be."
The four of them got into the car, with Ashwin driving. The ride to his home was quiet, with only occasional small talk. Sivaangi couldn't help but wonder what Ashwin's mother would be like.
When they arrived at Ashwin's home, Sivaangi's nerves returned. Ashwin gave her hand another reassuring squeeze before getting out of the car.
"Come on sweetheart" he said, smiling encouragingly.
Sivaangi nodded, taking a deep breath as she followed Ashwin out of the car. Akash and Monisha trailed behind them, chattering quietly.
As they entered the house, Sivaangi noticed a somber atmosphere. The room was quiet, with only the sound of the TV breaking the silence. Ashwin's mother sat on the couch, her eyes fixed on the screen. She looked up as they entered, and her face brightened when she saw Ashwin.
Ashwin went over to his mother and hugged her tightly. "Hi, Mom," he said, his voice filled with affection.
His mother hugged him back, her eyes welling up with tears. "Ashwin," she whispered.
As they hugged, Sivaangi noticed Ashwin's mother glance at her, her eyes lingering on her closeness towards Ashwin. A small smile played on her lips, and she nodded slightly, as if approving of Sivaangi.
Ashwin's mother pulled back and looked at Sivaangi, her eyes warm and welcoming. "And this must be Sivaangi," she said, her voice gentle.
Sivaangi smiled and nodded, feeling a bit more at ease. "Yes, Aunty. Nice to meet you."
Ashwin's mother smiled knowingly, her eyes moving back to Ashwin and Sivaangi's joined hands now. "I can see that," she said, her voice filled with emotion.
The room fell silent again, with only the sound of the TV breaking the silence. Sivaangi could sense the weight of Ashwin's father's passing, but Ashwin's mother's warm smile made her feel more comfortable.
After introducing Sivaangi, Ashwin turned to Akash and Monisha. "Mom, this is Akash and Monisha, Sivaangi's brother and friend. She is like a sister to me."
Ashwin's mother smiled warmly at them. "Ah, nice to meet you both. Come, give me a hug."
Akash, being the energetic one, ran to her and gave her a tight hug. Ashwin's mother laughed and patted his head, pulling his cheek affectionately. "You're a good boy, Akash. I can see that."
Monisha smiled shyly and gave her a gentle hug. Ashwin's mother smiled and hugged her back, whispering, "You're very welcome here, Monisha. You are just like aisha to me."
Ashwin's mother pulled back and looked at the four of them. "I'm so glad you all are here. It's been a tough few days, but seeing you all makes me feel a little better."
