Erica felt insulted and heartbroken by whatever Kabir said — and the way he said it.

She went straight to her father, determined to tell him she wouldn’t marry this arrogant man. But when she reached his room, she paused at the door — her father and mother were already in conversation.

“I just hope Kabir agrees to this marriage. I can’t take it anymore,” her father said.

“But we don’t even know what kind of person he is. We haven’t even seen him before,” her mother replied.

“I don’t care! Erica *has* to marry him. I’m not going to let Diva’s life get ruined. The gossip about her dating Anay is already all over town. If she doesn’t get married today, no one will agree to marry her later. We’re not like the Randhawas. Their reputation may survive, but ours will be *doomed*. Erica has to marry him — that’s it.”

After hearing all of this, Erica stood still for a moment. And then, silently, she made a decision.

She would marry Kabir — no matter what.

And with that, she and Kabir got married in a very mechanical wedding ceremony, where neither of them even glanced at each other.

.

Later that night, Erica stood in front of the mirror in Kabir’s room, thinking about everything that had happened.

Suddenly, the door opened. Kabir stepped in, not looking at her — instead, his eyes went straight to the floor.

“Why are you standing there? Aren’t you tired of the drama?” he said flatly. “Anyway, if you want, you can continue whatever you were doing. That’s really not my concern.”

He moved past her and added coldly, “You can live your life, I’ll live mine. But just remember the fact that you are married to me. Won’t you say something!?”

“Erica,” she said quietly.

“What?” he snapped.

“My name is Erica. Not Anika,” she replied firmly.

Then, lifting her head, she looked straight into his eyes. Kabir looked at her for the first time. Their eyes met — and it was like a flash of lightning in a dark sky.

They stood there, locked in a brief, wordless moment.

Then Kabir turned and walked out of the room.
