8 - He came back

It's already been a month since Erica and Kabir got married!!!

In this one month, Kabir became the MD of Pinnacle Group of Industries — something he had wanted for a long time. He was marching towards his sole dream of taking over the company entirely!

Everything was going great at work, and that was the only thing that mattered to him!

There was absolutely no change in his life after getting married... there were no calls, no interactions, nothing between them. Sometimes, he even forgot that he was married and how indifferent they both were with each other. Kabir would usually come home late, by the time Erica was already asleep… so they didn’t even see each other often. The only change was that sometimes Kabir used to sleep in his own room on the same bed with her, or otherwise he used to sleep in his office room or even in his penthouse alone.

Erica, on the other hand, accepted the fact that this marriage had no meaning for him, so she decided to stay away from him. The thought of being tied to him because of his father used to bother her! She sometimes felt like an unwanted guest in his room.

Erica thought of completing her management degree, but she was afraid of going back to her college. Everyone knew she had been in a relationship with Anay, and now that she was married to his brother… it seemed very weird. Because of the fear of judgment, she thought of completing her degree through distance learning.

A month just passed like that. One morning, while Kabir, Rajeshwar, and Smriti were having breakfast, suddenly a voice came from behind—

"Mom!!! I am back!"

There he was—Anay, standing with a few pieces of luggage and a bright smile on his face… as if nothing had happened. Kabir didn’t even look toward him.

Smriti rushed toward him and shouted, "Where were you, Anay??? You eloped on your wedding day and now you come like nothing happened? How could you?"

"Oh please, Mom! You knew I didn’t want to get married. You forced me… but in the meantime, I felt like I didn’t want it, so I just went with my friends to Thailand. I knew you guys would sort everything out behind me, so now I’m back," he said shamelessly with a smiling face.

Rajeshwar Randhawa also rebuked him, but he remained indifferent. Anay took an apple and sat at the dining table while listening to their rant, completely unaffected.

Suddenly, he saw Erica coming down the stairs. He choked at the sight of her and started coughing.

On the other hand, Erica saw Anay casually sitting at the dining table eating an apple. She couldn’t believe the man who had destroyed her life was so relaxed!!

She came down and looked at his face... she remembered the hurt he caused, and tears started brimming in her eyes.

"Why is she here, Mom?" he said.

"When you ran away, she and Kabir got married," his mom said.

Anay was dumbfounded. After a moment of silence, he walked toward Erica, who was crying and watching him with disgust.

Before he could reach her, a strong hand held his wrist. He looked down and saw Kabir, who had been eating salad casually, now holding his hand — and that too, so firmly.

"Kabir, leave my hand. I have to talk to her," he said.

"She is my wife... and you know very well I don’t like people messing with my things, so just take your step back and don’t come near her. Understand?" Kabir said. Then he stood up and glanced at Erica, who was crying — and after seeing this, Kabir felt as if someone had poured cold water on him.
